    The Louisiana Purchase was made in 1803. France agreed to sell the entire territory to United States for $15 million. The land stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Canadian border in the north all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.
  • Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    The Lewis and Clark Expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson. The party of 45 members consisted of U.S. Army soldiers, interpreters, Second Lieutenant Clark's slave, York, and Sacagawea and her husband Toussaint Charbonneau, all under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark. Their mission was to explore and map the newly acquired territory.
