Kozani has about 70.000 residents, so i believe that around 200 refugees could be successfully integrated into the local community. Kozani is not a very large city, but it has a friendly atmosphere and active local organizations that could help with social integration. The number of 200 people seems realistic because it is small enough for the city to provide proper support, education and job opportunities, but also big enough to promote diversity without causing difficulties in adaptation. -
Around Kozani there are many small villages, such us Lefkovrisi and Aiani which their residents have fled to come to the city, so there are many abandoned and vacant houses in which refugees can be accommodated. Moreover, refugees can temporarily settle in hotels for free. In general, the accommodation can be financially supported by NGO. -
Refugees in Kozani are able to work in different kinds of jobs such us in shops, farms and small factories. More specifically, we can invite refugees men to help in farming the mainstay of the areas economy and grow potatoes, krokos and apples. On the other hand, women can be employed in house cleaning or at the local restaurants as waitresses. -
The school can be very helpful in the adaptation of refugees to society. Students can help refugee children learn Greek and make new friends. Teachers can organise a ball, a charity, a bazaar or any other fund-raising event, which will bring the school community together and promote solidarity among students and refugees. lastly, school can collect clothes, books, and toys for refugee families who need them. in this way, the school helps refugees feel welcome and become part of the community. -
The arrival of refugees can bring many benefits to the local community. first of all, we can learn new cultures and ideas through cultural exchange, which helps people become more open minded. Refugees can also inhabit the empty villages around kozani, giving new life to areas that were almost abandoned. Moreover, their presence can support the local economy because more people will buy products. Finally, it can create a positive image of Kozani as a welcoming city that helps people in need.
