    The South Sea Company was a joint stock company in England that a lot of people bought into - it was meant to help with England's debt and it gave England a monopoly on Spanish trade. when it went too far and people started doubting that the SSC could uphold their end of the bargain, they started selling their share and everything crashed -- people lost life savings
