I remember when I first went to school when I first came here to America, I didn't speak the language and I didn't know anyone and it was very hard for me to communicate and I didn't know how to read or write. So I didn't really read but I remember the teacher would make the class sit on a rug and read to us! I didn't understand what she was saying or reading but I would listen!

I remember the time when I was in first grade, there was a student who was brought to my class by a teacher and who was a few grades ahead of me, I believe it was a 6th grader, the teacher had him read a book to us, I remember I didn't understand anything but just understand some words like rain, school, sister, brother and a few other words but that was all.

When I got to 2nd grade, I started understanding almost everything, reading was a bit tricky but I had teachers the would read for the whole class and I found it very interning!

I remember in 3rd grade the teacher would split the classroom into reading groups and there were certain levels they would have us seat. There were the low readers the med readers and the high! I was in low level sadly. I would always remember thinking "Will I ever be good at reading??"

In 4th grade, I remember my teacher would have us read in class and sometime she would make people read out loud. I would NEVER liked it when she would make me read but it helped me a lot with reading and reading out loud!!

When I was a freshman I remember when my siblings would come from school, younger siblings (sister: 6 years old, brother: 5 years old), they would have homework, where they had to read a book or be told a book and my siblings would come to me and make me read books for them, they weren't long books (chapter) but they were short kids books. I enjoyed it a lot and loved reading to them !

I took English II Honors sophomore year to challenge myself. Mrs. Plumey gave us a lot of readings, and if we didn’t read them, she would give surprise quizzes. The quizzes were easy if you read since the questions came straight from the text, but hard if you didn’t. That pushed me to always read, which really improved my skills. We also read about 6–7 books at home, each followed by an essay and a test. It was tiring, but it taught me discipline.
