Earliest Reading Memories
My earliest memory of reading began back in Kindergarten. I had such a love for school, I thought it was because I had the best teacher in the world. To this day, Mrs. Correa is still my favorite teacher I've ever had. Mrs. Correa gave us a homework packet for the week, which included timed reading. At the time, I didn't know how to read. Within my first few days, I learned how to read, and couldn't put a book down. I specifically remember my book being about Care Bears. -

Reading in School
A few years after Kindergarten, my love for reading was still there. I remember getting to go into the library once a week to pick out my books. I was in awe. I remember always wanting to read Junie B. Jones and showing my friends or teachers my books. I would go home and show my family, and sit and read for hours. -
Reading for Fun
My little brother, Derrick, couldn't read at the time. I remember my parents buying him these books. I found so much fun and joy in being able to read to him and immerse ourselves in the story. My brother and I used to use our imaginations and recreate the stories. He and I would sit outside our front door with a blanket and set up almost like a picnic. We would read books, have snacks, and play together. -
The Last Song
When I was younger, I was a huge fan of Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana. My mom told me she would be in the movie The Last Song, which was to be coming out. I wanted to see this movie so bad, but she wouldn't let me see the movie until I had read the book completely. I remember feeling frustrated, but in hindsight, I was glad to have read it and got a different perspective than the movie itself. I have always enjoyed using my imagination as I read. This book and movie were amazing! -
Scholastic Book Fair
I used to LOVE the book fair at school as a kid. I used to beg my parents for money to buy new books! I fell in love with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. If they had a book, I had to have it! I found so much humor and joy in reading these books. -
English Reflection: Henrietta Lacks
In my middle school era, I remember vividly reading this book and having an English assignment due. I believe it was a reflection paper about what I read, what I learned, etc. This book at first wasn't very interesting to me, and this is when my reading phase started to dwindle. If I couldn't hold interest, it got boring to me. -
My Sister's Keeper
I vividly remember my mom handing me this book and asking me if I wanted to read it. I enjoyed going through her books and having them passed down to me. This is the first book that I remember my heart was completely shattered, and I was left thinking to myself, why? This book was devastating! I believe my mother's love for reading was passed down to me in each book connection or story we shared. -
College English Course
I got the opportunity to take an English course in College. Within this course, we got to choose our topic or book, and write about the book itself, its themes, the impact, the connections, the storyline, etc. I enjoyed the course, and I enjoyed the book itself even more. Through my journey of reading and in my college course experiences, I thoroughly enjoy sharing books or things I feel passionately about. This book inspired me to try to read other books similar to this genre. -
Reading in College
I got the opportunity to take a pretty fun college course, the course was all about Stephen King and his work. Prior to this course, I had never seen or read any of his films or books due to my not being a huge horror fan. Through this class, I was able to read four of his most popular novels and reflect on what I read. I was also able to write about different themes and how different parts of the story connect and correlate. Overall, it was a great reading experience, especially as an adult! -
It Ends With Us
I never thought I would be one of those people who liked the books better than the movies, but here I am. I am an avid book reader who loves small details in books, and when the same story is not replicated, I get frustrated. This is the second book ever that I have picked apart and compared to the movie itself. I loved this book, and wish the movie did it more justice! Again, my love for reading inspired me to watch the movie, to which I was sadly disappointed. -
My Current Obsession
When I discovered The Summer I Turned Pretty, both the series on TV and the books, I couldn't contain my excitement. My love for reading is so strong today. I can feel thankful looking back on my past reading experiences, and feel grateful I have come so far as a reader. My reading preferences now tend to be mysteries or romance novels. I realize that without the influence of some of my teachers, I would never have been an avid reader. I try to read at least two books a month.
