    It was her first time seeing her play Waterfall being performed. She was just a second-year college student. It had only taken her a few months to write her play in her writing room.

During this time she also left for New York where she was first a student of María Irene Fornés’ Latino playwrighting workshop, followed by playwright residencies at INTAR, Theater Communications Group, Lake Placid Institute for the Arts, and New Dramatists. Many of her archives can be found University of Miami's Cuban heritage collection in Florida.

    This was Isabel Allende’s landmark novel, made in Spanish. Svich had translated it into English and was going to have it performed at the Denver Theatre Center and Mixed Blood Theatre in Minneapolis later that season.

    Svich was proudly awarded the OBIE Lifetime Achievement in theatre award which is annually given to recognize outstanding theatre productions/artists in New York.

    Svich's play "Guapa" received both the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award and a National New Play Network. This meant she had been given significant recognition for the play within the American theater landscape.

    Svich released RED BIKE, which is now one of her very well-known plays. It is about our unnamed main character and how they carefully watch the world around them, understanding the limits of their reality, and imagines the possibilities of dreams. The bike serves as both a way to get around and a vehicle for dreams, taking them from one perspective to another, almost like a magic carpet.
