    Greensboro 4 Sit- In

    A group of 4 black college students sat at the whites only lunch counter. Everyday they grow in size. They remained non-violent until the 3rd when white people were harassing them and they were eventually getting arrested.
  • Freedom Riders

    Freedom Riders

    Most of the riders were members of C.O.R.E and trained by NAACP. People who rode the bus would most likely be threatened or harmed. They did this so they could antagonize southern racists and force the KKK into criminal action. After the KKK mobbed the bus the Kennedy administration created a law that desegregated interstate level and it worked.

    John F. Kennedy sent troops to force the desegregation of the Univ of Alabama.
  • Assassination of Medgar Evers

    Assassination of Medgar Evers

    Medgar was a World War 2 veteran who participated in the Normandy Invasion. He was the first NAACP's first field secretary in the south. One of his first assignments was investigating the murder of Emmett Till. In 1963 Medgar Evers was assassinated in his driveway and was shot by a KKK member.

    Martin Luther King Jr writes " Letter From a Birmingham Jail" and he was arrested 29 during his entire life time. This letter reached many different groups among the country, talking about humanity vs color.

    Malcolm was extremely smart but didn't have the degrees to back him up. He was the FBI #1 public enemy. People would say that if there was ever a race war people say that Malcolm X would've been the person to start it. Before he was called Malcolm X he was known as Malcolm Little and code name on the streets red.

    600 Selma, Alabama to Montgomery (States capital) in protest of Black voter suppression local police block and brutally attack them. Dr King launches the Second Selma March for voting rights and it works. LBJ passes the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

    James Merdith Walk/shooting

    James Meredith who integrated the Univ Of MS sets out on a protest walk called the "March Against Fear" and this is when he gets shot. Dr King, Floyd McKissick of C.O.R.E and Stokely Carmichael of SNCC, lead the other protesters to finish Meredith's walk. Carmichael is arrested along the way and coins the term "Black Power" after being beaten in jail.

    The Black Panthers founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale from Oakland, CA. Simultaneuous with shootouts with police and violent protests they establish inner city daycare center, free breakfast and medical programs and homeless assistance to serve the ghetto population.

    MLK was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee during an event that sent shock waves reverberating around the world. A Baptist minister and founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference King had led the civil rights movement since the mid-1950s.
