  • Creation of the NAACP

    the naacp was founded to fight racial discrimination through legal actions. It played a major role in challenging segregation and unfair laws.
  • The Tulsa Race Massacre

    A white mob destroyed the Black community of Greenwood in Tulsa. This tragedy showed the strike racial violence Black Americans faced and why civil rights protection were needed.
  • Scottsboro Boys

    Nine black teenagers were falsely accused of assault in Alabama and given unfair trials. The case exposed racism in the justice system and helped lead to new rules about fair trials and legal representation.
  • Jackie Robinson Breaks the Color Barrier

    Jackie Robinson became the first black player in Major League Baseball. His success challenged segregation and inspired progress beyond sports
  • Brown v. Board of education

    the Supreme Court ruled that segregated school were unconstitutional. This decision overturned “separate but equal” and helped end legal segregation in education.
  • Civil Rights Act Passed

    This law ended segregation in public places and banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex or national origin. It was one of the biggest achievements of the civil rights movements
  • The murder of Emmett Till

    Emmett Till, a 14 year old black boy, was murdered in Mississippi. The public reaction to his death exposed the violence of racism and helped spark the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    After Rosa Parks was arrested, African Americans boycotted buses in Montgomery. The protest ended bus segregation and launched MLK as a national leader.
  • The Little Rock Nine

    Nine Black students integrated Central High School in Arkansas despite their angry mobs. The federal government stepping in proved that desecration law would be enforced
  • Ruby bridges Desegregates

    Ruby Bridges became the first black child to attend an all-white elementary school in New Orleans. Her bravery showed how difficult and important school integration was.
  • Letter from a Birmingham Jail

    Martin Luther King jr. wrote this letter to explain why peaceful protest was necessary. It became one of the most important writings of the Civil Rights movement
  • The Civil rights march on Washington

    over 250,000 people were marched for job and freedom. This is where MLK gave his famous “I Have Dream” speech.
  • Assassination of Malcolm X

    Malcolm X was assassinated while giving a speech. He was strong voice for black empowerment, and his death deeply impacted the civil rights movement.
  • Voting Rights Act PAssed

    This law protected Africans Americans right to vote by banning unfair practice like literacy tests. It greatly increased Black voter participation
  • Creation of the Black Panthers

    The black panthers party was formed to protect Black communities and promote self-defense and equality. They also created community program like free breakfasts for children.
  • Thurgood Marshall Named Supreme Court Justice

    Thurgood Marshall became the first Black Supreme Court Justice. He helped shape civil rights law and previously argued Brown v. Board of education.
  • Assasination of Martin Luther King Jr.

    MLK was killed in Memphis, Tennessee. His death shocked the nation, but his leadership and message of nonviolence continue to inspire civil rights efforts.
