The NAACP was the brainchild of white progressives. The founding date, February 12th, was chosen to coincide with the 100th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. -
scottsboro boys
Haywood Patterson was never paroled – he escaped prison in 1948 and moved to Michigan. They called the boys 'black fiends' and 'Negro brutes'. -
Jackie Robinson Breaks the Color Barrier
Players and staff wear the number 42 till this day to remember Robinson's impact, and it was retired in 1997. He is buried in Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York. -
Brown vs. Board of Education
About 21,500 Black teachers lost their jobs due to this event. The ruling laid the foundation for the 1975 federal law requiring access to a free, appropriate public education for all children with disabilities. -
