Mendez v. Westminster
For hispanic Americans their treatment was similar to those of other minorities they experienced segregation and discrimination. This event was significant because it overturned segregation of Mexicans in California. Although it was only in California it is believed that this event was used when it came to desegregating all schools in America in the Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. -
Little Rock Nine
During the time period 1945-1964, there was an event when a group of nine African American students were escorted by federal troops into an all white school. This event happened after the Supreme Court's ruling in Brown vs. Education where segregated schools were illegal. Desegregation didn't come easy to whites and accepting people into their schools was much worse hence the troops having to escort the students into school. -

Civil Rights Act of 1964
The civil rights act was impactful for everyone. This was especially impactful for women because the civil Rights act prevented discrimination against people based sex or color. For women this allowed them to have more opportunities to get work without being pushed away because they are women. This pushed the feminist movement forward because the SCOTUS was finally taking into consideration everyone not just simply minorities. -
Indian Civil Rights Act
The Indian Civil Rights Act guaranteed the same civil rights for Native Americans, mostly, under the US constitution. These rights included freedom of religion, speech, press and assembly. This was significant because it gave the Natives most of the rights that they deserved and were denied for the longest time. This was one of the most positive thing that had occurred to the Natives in the 1900s. -
Miss America Protests
These protests were about women being against these pageants because they believed that they were objectifying women. The women named a sheep "Miss America" and threw feminine products into the trash. This was significant in the second Wave feminism because it gained media coverage and because of this it pushed the movement forward. This helped when it came to giving the women rights such as when Roe v Wade was decided. -
Roe v Wade
In the feminist movement, Roe v Wade proved to be a fundamental event in the feminist movement. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of women being in control of whether or not they would want to abort their babies. This was something really impactful in the movement, however in the year of 2022 the Supreme Court overturned the decision they made years ago. The decision that once propelled the feminist movement in the 70s pushed it back in the present. -
Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act
This act allowed tribal governments to have more control over their own affairs rather than the federal government having more control over the tribes. This meant that the tribal government could contact the federal government about services they needed rather than the government deciding what they needed and what they didn't. This was impactful because it gave tribes their sovereignty and more freedom giving the Native Americans rights in a much shorter time period than in the previous decades. -
Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act
This was a really important act because this ensured that museums would return sacred artifacts, human remains and any other object that belonged to the tribes. This was enacted by law and was really significant because for the longest time, countries had been stealing sacred objects from tribes and by enacting this act the government was essentially returning what had been stolen. This was really valuable for the tribes because it gave them back stuff that was important for them. -
Arizona v. United States
This was a court case against Arizona where the United States claimed that the states could not make their own immigration laws. This was helpful for the movement because it prevented illegal immigrants from being penalized because of failure when carrying registration. This was significant because it allowed the federal government to be the only one who could dictate what could be done about immigrants in the United States. -

Black Lives Matter Movement
Throughout history there have been movements searching for African American rights and even in the present once the battle for those rights should have ended, African Americans have been faced with the same challenges. This movement is significant because it was started in earlier years because of the murder of Trayvon Martin and came back in full force in 2020 because of the murder of George Floyd. In both events people gathered together to fight the injustice that African Americans face.
