    Chinese handheld fans were created with a variety of paintings and calligraphy. Each craftsman used these folding fans as a way to show off their talents. Fans were more popular to be made from silk and bamboo. Being given as gifts between the nobility in society.

    Fans became tools to transport writing between scholars. Being able to fold up into a small, easy to pack shape, they became popular to write on. showing off poetry and literature overseas.

    Many cultures were suppressed and pushed out of society, a declining trend over this era. Societies believed these materials and usages were outdated and old. With less demand for the folding fans the production was stalled. People lost jobs and weren't able to sustain their craftsmanship. Cultural pieces of art were banned or destroyed to eliminate traditions in society.

    Fans are being used as props in traditional Chinese performances like operas or dances. Accessorizing with fans can add pops of colour and flare to popular street wear in youth today. Seeing fans in Chinese historical dramas, being used in cosplays or concerts has become very popular.
