At home I started speaking and writing in Spanish so by the time I started preschool I only knew how to communicate in Spanish.

I started speaking English and practicing reading vowels for their different sounds. I had great teachers that were very patient with me.

I learned English pretty fast and started reading books from The Magic Tree house series

I started to get higher reading levels and often got praised by teachers. I was fluent in both English and Spanish at this point.

My teachers continued to encourage my reading skills and I kept learning Spanish at home. Sometimes I would volunteer to read for kindergarten classes and I honestly enjoyed it.

my last year at elementary school and I finished with great grades and strong abilities in both English and Spanish.

this year COVID hit so everyone did online school, if I was bored I would read a couple of books, but there was no progress in my reading

Freshman year was when I started reading books consistently again, especially for class assignments. It really helped me enjoy reading more often. My writing improved this year because of all of the essays I had to write for class.

Both English class and history class helped me read a lot more than I usually would. Most of my assignments made me read and I definitely was able to expand across different genres. I feel like I am a pretty good reader and I hope to improve this year.
