David Fincher was born on august 28th,1962 in Denver Colorado and raised by his two parents, Jack Fincher ,an author, and Claire Mae Fincher, a mental health nurse. -
David Fincher was around 7 or 8 years old when he first learned about the zodiac killers active killings. He had just came back from school and learned from his dad about the the serial killer on the loose. Later on, as a director he would direct a movie based off the Zodiac killer. -
when David was 2 his family moved to San Anselmo, California. At age 8 David was already begining to have an interest in film due to the fact that film maker George Lucas was his neighbor. At this age as well he began to film on a camera because he was inspired by the making of "butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid" . -
When David was a teen he moved to Ashland, Oregon and went to Ashland Highschool .In Highschool "He directed plays and designed sets and lighting after school". -
after he graduates from Ashland Highschool he recieves a standard Highschool diploma for graduating. -
After David graduates from Highschool he decided to go to a film school named forgo and from there he begins to work on film sets and learns about the different jobs for every crew member. -
before working on film sets David Fincher had other jobs such as working as a busboy, dishwasher and a fry cook. Eventually David worked in Korty films by loading cameras and eventually was hired by Industrial Light Magic -
Once he was hired he "worked on productions for Twice Upon a Time, Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" as the visual affects -
After working in Industrial Light Magic he left and started directing a commercial for American Cancer society. His commercial showed a baby fetus smoking a cigarette and this commercial led him to get recognized by producers. -
From this single commercial he was able to get recognized by producers In L.A and was given the role of directing the "Rick Springfield's 1985 documentary, To The Beat of the Live Drum". This ultimately led him to start a music/commercial directing career. -
David Fincher eventually co-finds Propaganda Films and starts "directing commercials and music videos". He directed music videos for many well known people like "Michael Jacksons "Who Is it" and "Billy idols "Cradle of Love". He made commercials for Levi's, Chanel coca cola and many more. -
In 1990 David Fincher marries Donya Fiorentino -
His first debut film was sci-fi, thriller movie Alien 3 "with a budget of $60 million". Being his first debut he put "techniques that would come to define his work throughout his career" like color and camera angles. Even with his techniques it was not well received and was criticized making it a failure but it did receive an" Academy award nomination for Best Visual Effects". -

His failure on Alien 3 did not stop Fincher because later on, in 1995 he would work on another film named "Seven" a psychological thriller movie . This next film received more "positive reviews and was a box-office success making Fincher known as a rising director in Holly Wood. -
In 1996 David Fincher marries Ceán Chaffin -
After his success on "Seven" he went on to direct "The game" staring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn. The movie is about a banker who ,on his birthday, is gifted a real life personal game by his brother. This film got the Saturn Award for best action and adventure. -
Chuck Palahniuk's novel, Fight Club, was made a movie and directed by David Fincher. On October 15,1999 it was released starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton ."The film failed to meet the studio's expectations at the box office" .It received controversy and was the "talked-about films of the 1990s".Although, later on Fight Club would receive success from home video releases. -
During this time David, and other film directors, were called up by the White House "to participate in a secret summit with Pentagon officials to brainstorm new disaster scenarios" and to help form plans on how to prevent them. -
After Fight Club he made "Panic room" (2002) which made $196M , "Zodiac" (2007) making $85M , and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008) making $334M. All these movies had different genres from thriller to historical drama.

following the 2000's were the 2010's where David would go on and make more movies including The Social Network (2010),The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011),Gone Girl (2014).

David Fincher's more recent films include "Mank" (2020),"The Killer" (2023), and "The Adventures of Cliff Booth" (2026) which is upcoming film coming out in summer of 2026.
