    Social media was able to pioneer the idea of having algorithms. Now people have the choice to choose what appears on their pages and are able to filter out the things they do not want to see.

    This would be the PEAK of memes. Facebook being the biggest platform at the time a lot of memes were shared here. This was seen as a new way of communicating and could be seen as "storytelling". Since then the meme community has grown tremendously.
