Johann C wrote the first picture book designed for children. This book was published in 1658 and it was used as a guide for teachers to talk about senses and the study of nature. Comenius strongly believed that education should follow a natural order. His idea was that childrens progress was on its own and their education should be reflecting that. He also heavily encouraged parents to have their children play with other children because they learn by doing.

German was the first country to have kindergarten. Kindergarten has gone through many social changes throughout the years. At first it was for poor students and then it went to be led by churches. The kindergarten we know today is the first grade that students enter when they go to school to help them become more independent and prepared for the following grades.

Rudolf was an Australian philosopher, scientist, and artist. He also gave presentations for German factories that led to the creation of schools now which are known as Waldorf Education. His system first became popular in Europe and eventually made its way to North America. Steiner claimed that childhood is a phase of life that is very important and the environment needs to be carefully selected to help guide children.

Robert Owen created an infant school in New Lanark, England as a way to improve the lives of children who's parents worked in his factories.

Maria was the first female physician in Italy. She worked in the overcrowded shelters of Rome with children in poverty with mental disabilities. When she noticed they were lacking motivation and a healthy environment, she decided to open a preschool. These children would spend the day at her preschool while their parents worked and would be fed two meals a day, given a bath, and received medical care. Marias teaching proved that these children were not faulty, but they could succeed in school.

After World War 2 the launch of Sputnik, which was a Soviet Satalite and also the worlds first effective space exploration caused a disruption in education circles. Education quickly settled on engineering, science, and math to hopefully catch up with the Soviet Technolgy at the time.

The High Scope is a early intervention program that was designed for low income children. Later a study had showed that low income families who sent their children to preschool did better in school then children who did not attend. The children attending the preschool program were better educated, and were overall better well rounded. This early intervention program proved to be more cost effective and positively influencing these children who went.
