ECE Timeline Chapter 1

  • John Locke

    Founder of a modern educational philosophy. His theory was of education on the scientific method and the study of the mind and learning. He approached a child as a doctor would examine a patient. John was one of the first European educators to discuss ideas of individual differences by observing a child rather then teaching a group. John thought that teaching kids in a more playful way was more efficient. So children were taught basic skills.
  • Kindergarten

    German was the first country to have kindergarten. Kindergarten has gone through many social changes throughout the years. At first it was for poor students and then it went to be led by churches. The kindergarten we know today is the first grade that students enter when they go to school to help them become more independent and prepared for the following grades.
  • No child left behind

    In United States the leave no child behind law was passed. This required all public schools that receive federal funds to administer a statewide standardized test to every student also meaning a annual standardized report card detailing there progress. Calling for teachers with qualifications for students.
