    Positive:
    Ronin is born into a warm, nurturing family. His parents quickly respond to his cries and provide consistent care. Ronin learns that the world is safe and that people can be trusted. Negative:
    Ronin has neglectful and inconsistent parents. He learns the world is unpredictable and develops mistrust toward others.
  • Ronin Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt

    Positive:
    As a toddler, Ronin insists on feeding himself and choosing his own clothes. His parents encourage his independence, even when he makes a mess. Ronin develops confidence and a sense of autonomy. Negative:
    When Ronin tries to feed himself or explore, his parents scold or restrict him. He feels ashamed of his mistakes and doubts his abilities.
  • Ronin Initiative vs. Guilt

    Positive:
    Ronin loves playing “superhero” and fighting off bad guys. His parents praise his creativity. He begins to take initiative and develops a sense of purpose. Negative:
    Ronin’s attempts to play or take initiative and is criticized (“Stop making a mess!”).
    He begins to feel guilty for wanting to do things on his own.
