Industry vs. Inferiority
As Amanda enters middle school, she has developed a fear of taking tests, because her parents have begun to demand higher grades in all of her subjects. She is also afraid to raise her hand in class because she is afraid of saying the wrong answer in front of her peers and teachers. During this stage, children focus more on the outside world, and what others think of them. They begin to compare their skills and abilities with those around them, and may begin to feel different emotions. -
Identity vs. Confusion
As Amanda has gone through high school, she has started to experiment more with drinking and drugs because the process of growing up and the expectations that she is held to are becoming more and more painful. During this stage, adolescents may begin to experience a crisis of identity, and who they are. -
Integrity vs. Despair
As Amanda enters her old age, she has begun to reflect on her life and part of her wishes that she could start over and do it all over again. During this stage, which usually occurs in later adulthood, people begin to reflect on the life that they have lived and they either find fulfillment or feel disappointment and regret.
