    Ronan Starts Toilet Training: Autonomy Versus Shame and Doubt
    Ronan (age 2 years) is showing signs of independency indicating readiness to start toilet training. In Erikson’s second stage, autonomy versus shame and doubt, the crisis is between feeling confident in themselves and or feeling shameful. With positive reinforcement Ronan can feel confident in his abilities. With pressure or punishment toilet training may take longer as Ronan will feel shame and embarrassment anytime he doesn't initially succeed.

    Ronan Goes on his First Date: Identity Versus Role Confusion
    Ronan (age 17) steps outside of his family zone to explore his own identity and experiment with who he wants to be. Its not about finding love but going out and exploring outside of his parents. In Erikson's fifth stage, identity versus role confusion, the crisis is between control of your own life by forming your own identity and making your own life choices or confusion and loss of identity by feeling the need to conform to others views.

    Ronan (age 26) asks his partner to move in with him which is a big step in his life as well as the relationship. In Erikson's sixth stage, intimacy versus isolation, the crisis is long-lasting relationships or loneliness. With success at this stage can lead to fulfilling and meaningful relationships as well as intimacy. Failure in this stage may result in social isolation and being closed off to others.
