Food tech ice cream history timeline

  • 3000 BCE

    Beginning of ice-cream evolution

Ice-cream was not invented by any one person. Instead it was a gradual process of different frozen deserts over centuries. Evidence of ice-cream goes back to 3000 BC, where a milk and rice mixture was frozen together.
  • 1298

    Italians taking over

Much later in 1298, ice cream was being sold on large streets. Marco Polo brought ice-cream recipes to Italy during this time. Italians took over European ice cream making to this day.
  • French evolution

During the French evolution, count Augustine ran away to Hamburg with his chef and others. At Hamburg, he opened the famous Alster Pavillion, which mainly served ice-cream. Fugitive counts and their chefs spread ice-cream across Europe.
