  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party happened in 1773 when colonists protested a tea tax by dressing up, sneaking onto ships, and dumping 342 chests of tea into the harbor. This made Britain and the colonies fight more leading to the revolution.
  • Battle of Lexington & Concord

    British soldier went to Lexington and Concord to take weapons from the colonists. The colonists fought back and then moved to Concord. This was the beginning of the American Revolution.
  • The Declaration of Independence is Signed

    The colonies leaders signed the Declaration of Independence, saying they were free from Britain and explained why they wanted to be independent.
  • The Winter at Valley Forge

    Dec 19, 1777 that’s when Washington’s Continental Army camped in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, enduring freezing temperatures, diseases, and food shortages but also getting trained and organized for future battles.
  • Articles of Confederation are Ratified

    The Articles were American’s first plan for a national government. They gave most power to the states and made the national government weak. While it helped with the Revolution War, it didn’t work well for running the country, which is why the Constitution later replaced.
  • The Battle of YorkTown

    This was the last big battle of the revolution. George Washington and the French surrounded the British army, and British General Cornwallis had to surrender. After this the war was basically over. The war started at September 28 and finished at October 19
  • The Constitution is Ratified

    The Constitution was approved in 1788 after most states agreed to it. This made it the official plan for how the u.s government works.
  • Presidential Inauguration of George

    George Washington became the first president of the United States. He set a bunch of traditions for presidents like giving an inaugural speech and not staying in the office forever.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    In his goodbye message, Washington warned against political parties and getting involved in other countries’ problems.
  • The Death of George Washington

    George Washington died in 1799 after getting sick from being out in cold weather. His throat swelled so he couldn’t breathe well and the treatment back then didn’t help. He died at his home in Virginia at 67.
  • Election Day, 1800

    This election was between Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. But elections were held over a month back then. It was importantly because it was the first peaceful transfer of power between political parties in U.S history showing that the new government could handle change without the violence.
  • Marbury v. Madison

    This court case gave the Supreme Court the power to decide if a law is unconstitutional. It made sure the Court was just as powerful as the president and congress.
