    End of French and Indian War
    The treaty of Paris marked the end of the French and Indian war, this brought joy to the colonists as they celebrated the victory.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    changed tax on imported goods from the Caribbean from 6 cents per gallon to 3 cents.
    This took power away from the colonists by making it close to impossible for them to smuggle goods over which angered them.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This required all printed material to have a stamp which was not free in order to gain revenue for the British.
    This act angered newspaper makers and lawyers who used a lot of paper. In retaliation they decide to boycott all British goods which was the first major act of defiance against the British.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Passed to prove to the colonies that the British had the power and the right to tax them whenever they pleased. This act followed the repeal of the Stamp Act and was placed to prove they were still in control.
    The colonists had no major reaction to this act but felt that the British were acting tyrannical.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Created a new board of customs in order to prevent smuggling.
    The colonists hated this act and it caused great conflict, many responded with a boycott including women. Many also protested on the streets which got out of hand (Boston massacre).
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    Put into place tax exemptions and rebates on tea coming in from the British which lowered the price of tea.
    This angered the colonists enough to dump tons of British tea into the Boston harbor. They were so angry because cheap tea cut into the profits of smugglers, but most were angry at the principle of the act because of how important tea was to the colonists.
  • Intolerable acts

    Intolerable acts
    This included a series of new British acts that were put into place following the Boston Tea Party to put the British into power. These acts included the Massachusetts government act, the Quartering act, the Quebec act, and more.
    The colonists reaction caused the start of the revolutionary war. The colonists retaliated by having Massachusetts a set of revolutions, a group of delicates from 13 of the colonies got together to coordinate a solution (first continental congress).
