    End of French Indian War
    The War ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763. The outcome of the war made colonists angry because it limited their ability to take land from Indians and left them with war debt and they also didn’t get to have a say with the new increase in taxes from British Government.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This Act extended the Molasses Act by changing the tax on imports from the Caribbean from 6 cents per gallon to 3 cents per gallon. This gave British courts the right to try colonial smugglers, taking the power away from colonial courts, making them furious.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This Act declared that all printed material had to carry a stamp, which was intended to increase revenue for Britain. This affected colonists who bought newspapers, causing them to organize the Stamp Act Congress and boycott British goods.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This act was declared by the British Parliament to repeal the Stamp Act. Colonists were not upset with this, given that they didn’t like the Stamp Act.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This Act created a new board of customs to stop smuggling. Colonists did not like this act one bit and responded with a boycott.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This Act offered tax exemptions and rebates for tea coming in from the British East India Company, which allowed them to dump cheap tea on the colonies, lowering the price of tea. Colonists were so furious that they dressed up as Indians and dumped tea into the Boston Harbor to cause the modern equivalent of a 4 million dollar loss.
  • Start of Revolutionary War

    Start of Revolutionary War
    This was a colonial response to the acts passed by the British. Massachusetts started this by passing a set of resolutions calling for colonists to disobey the intolerable acts, stop paying taxes, and prepare for war. In 1774, a group of delegates (12 out of 13 colonies) met up to coordinate the Resistance of Intolerable Acts.
