Prohibition
Prohibition was banned the creation and the movement of liquor across Canada. The reason they had banned liquor was because many had thought it was unfair for the men at war and the people to stay at home enjoying themselves. The federal government introduced prohibition in 1918. This caused the crime rate to go down, but had started new problems with bootleggers making liquor and rumrunners moving it. -
Spanish Flu
In 1918, there was a pandemic called the Spanish flu. It was often misdiagnosed as pneumonia, and the people usually died from it as there was no cure at the time, the disease come to Canada after soldiers came back from overseas they would carry it, to try and stop the spread many different businesses/ government buildings had closed their doors. -
Winnipeg General strike
In 1919 the Winnipeg general strike was the largest strike in Canadian history, more than 30,000 workers left their jobs, causing many services to shut down. The strike resulted in arrests, injuries and death. The goal of the strike was to get higher wages and get better working conditions, As a results the strike helped to unite the working class. Intern making the strike worth it because many were struggling to make ends meet after the First World War. -
Bloody Saturday
Bloody Saturday was during the Winnipeg general strike, many gathered to watch the parade protesting and arrest of the leaders of strike, at the time parades had been banned, the mayor took action and the Royal northwest mounted police were called to charge the crowd those caused injury, arrests and the death of a man, after five more days the strike has ended. -
Fashion in the 1920s to 1930s.
The fashion trends of 1920s were more casual and relaxed, Woman often wore knee-length tubular day dresses and the men wore Knickerbockers with sweater vests. -
Group of seven
The group of seven was formed in 1920, it was a group of famous painters known for painting the Canadian landscape, they were also known for creating a style of painting, The group consisted of Auther Lismer, Frankiln Carmichael, Franz Johnston, Lawren Harris, A.Y. Jackson, J.E.H. Macdonald, and Fredrick Varley. They still influence paintings in the modern day. -

all around info Jazz music was often played at venues their music world be broadcasted nationwide for all to enjoy some objected jazz music for its vulgarity and depravity but the young generation loved it, they especially loved dancing doing dances like the Charleston and the cakewalk. -
Insulin
With diabetes on the rise, many needed a treatment. In 1922 Canadian medical researchers at the university of Toronto made a massive discovery called insulin. A man named Frederick Banting had concluded that people with diabetes couldn't absorb sugar/starch from there because they had been missing a hormone called insulin, which was instrumental to absorb sugar and starch from the bloodstream. This discovery was fa nominal and saved millions of lives. -
Chinese Exclusion Act
The Chinese Exclusion Act was meant to stop immigration from China, it was passed on July 1st, 1923, it banned Chinese people from coming into Canada not including students, merchants, and diplomats. Discrimination still existed in Canada, and Canadian thought that the Chinese would take over their jobs. -

In 1927 four prominent woman along with Emily Murphy wanted to petition the prime minister about what the meaning of persons was, section 24 of the British North American act, the supreme court of Canada said that women were not persons with enough qualifications for appointment to the Canadian senate, but the privy council in Britain said otherwise and so women were later considered persons in law. -
Black Tuesday
A lot of people invested in the stock market as it was seen as a quick way to make a lot of money but on October 29th, 1929 the stock markets crashed and this will forever be known as black Tuesday, a lot of people who had invested lost everything, and fell into poverty. This event played a big role in the downturn in the 1930s into the great depression. -

During the great depression, the federal government of Canada created a system of unemployment relief camps. At these camps, in exchange for from and board, single men did physical labour. The government received criticism for creating relief camps instead of making wages higher. -

At the time, Prime minister R.B. Bennet was aware that the population was not happy. In an attempt to win the next election, he introduced his plan to fix the current issues by adding unemployment and social insurance setting minimum wages and making a limit on how many hours can be worked a week, guaranteeing good treatment of workers and controlling prices, so businesses can't spike the prices, but this didn't work and in the election king, of the liberals went back into power.
