The 5th of September 1882, Hotspur Football Club was formed by the students of an Anglican school. In 1884 the club was renamed Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

In 1887, the Spurs had their first match against Arsenal, which would be his main rival in the North London derby. A year later they would move to Northumberland Park.

On the Christmas of 1895 they are admitted on the Southend League.In 1900, Tottenham won the Southern League.

The big success came in 1901, when Tottenham Hotspur became the first non-league team to win the FA Cup. The Spurs established a new tradition, tie colorful ribbons for winners on the trophy.

The victory of the FA Cup helped the Spurs to be elected to the Second Division of the Football League in 1908. They managed the promotion to the First Division in his first attempt in 1909.
