In this Time-Toast i will be writing about how the tourism industry started. Travel and Tourism began in the ancient times with motivations rooted in religious, trade and curiosity. it was simply exemplified by the Greek and Roman travel to religious sites and resort. It is accepted that the modern-day tourism industry originates in the European Grand Tour. -
Mainly wealthy young men went to the grand tour as a rite of passage for combination of education, social standing and personal development. -
The original spa towns was in Bath but it became really popular because it was made to have the best source of medical treatment including mineral and thermal water customs, drinking cures and mud treatment.
During the times of war, travelling abroad became really hard making the spa towns really popular for the wealthy. -
the beach resorts became popular due to Queen Victoria saying that the air by the seaside was clan and that paddling in the water would help their health. The bathing machines were used for privacy among the beach resorts to change in and out of bathing clothes. -
the railway also helped the beach resorts grow because it allowed them to be transported to their destinations faster, more affordable and more accessible, this railway revolution transforms seaside towns from elite get aways into popular destinations for the middle working classes -
The railway helped tourism grow by making travel cheaper , faster and more accessible. turning short breaks and day trips from a luxury for the wealthy into a pleasure for the masses.
Thomas Cook started organizing packaged tours as a way to support the temperance movement by providing organized transport for working-class people to attend rallies. -
The holiday camps in Butlins were very popular because they offered an affordable all- inclusive holiday experience.
the camps also offered fixed prices for families that couldn't afford much along with an all inclusive stay.

The camps slowly began to fall due to the bad British weather and people started to discover warmer places to visit because the planes started to become more affordable. -
The first package was in 1949, it was organized by Vladimir Raitz, He took 32 passengers to Corsica on a DC3 airplane. it costed them £32.50. This packaged holiday included an accommodation in tents, return flights, transfers and full board. Vladimir Raitz established the horizon holidays in the same year. By the end of the 1950s the company had grown to be the UKs most best tour operators -
The increase leisure time has come about primarily use due to paid holidays entitlement.
In the UK there is a one day bank holiday or annual leave.
it is a legal requirement for employers to give their staff paid holidays, and now most of the employees have at least 4 week holidays each year -
Sir Freddie laker launched his sky train service from London to New York in 1977, lowering the cost of air travels.
He mainly flew low cost charter airlines. The success of early budget carriers such as south west airlines, encouraged to offer more competitive pricing to keep passengers engaged. -
the internet originally started in the 1960s as a way for the government researchers to share information.

essentially a package holiday is when you buy 2 or more travel services together. it must include it being a 24 hour stay, accommodation, and 2 types of travel services.
however a linked arrangement is the types of services covered by linked arrangements is transport, car rental, accommodation and a tourist service. -
