    John D. Rockefeller created this company in Cleveland Ohio. It became one of the largest companies of its time, and still is seen as a large company to this day. His company led to the development of trusts. it was important to its time because it drew people from all over the world to the U.S. in hopes of working in the oil factories.
  • Alexander Graham Bell Patents the Telephone

    this invention allowed for vocal sounds very electrical lines. it was important because it increased communication everywhere.
  • The Great Oklahoma Land Race

    This was the start to the series of times where the United States allowed people to buy and posses what was supposed to be Indian owned land. this was important to this time frame because the massive increase in population allowed for agricultural growth, development of new states, for example Oklahoma, and was responsible for some of the uprising cities that used industrial factories.
  • Ellis Island Opens to Process Immigrants

    this was the main federal processing center for immigrants. it as important because it replaced the New York center, which was overwhelmed by the amount of immigrants trying to get through. It processed over 12 million people in only 62 years. it was also important t this time because they could deny the immigrants they thought were undesirable to their country more effectively.
  • The Wizard of Oz (Book) is Published

    it was written by L. Frank Baum, and published by George M. Hill Company. It was a children's book about a young girl named Dorthy who ends up in a magical place called Oz after being swept up by a cyclone. It goes about her journey to get home, and the friendships she makes along the way. it was important because it can be seen as about the journey immigrants face when trying to be welcomed into the U.S.
  • Ford Motor Company is Founded

    Henry Ford and 12 others invest over 20, 000 dollars in creating the company on this day. He owned nearly 25 percent of the company alone. It was run in Detroit Michigan, and it was at first created to make and sell affordable automobiles. it was important because it drew immigrants to the United States with unskilled labor.
  • Angel Island Opens to Process Immigrants

    This place was used to process mainly African immigrants, and was a place of entry for the U.S. It was also used as a place for detention. over half a million immigrants were processed through here over the course of 30 years alone. It was important because they used it to detain, hold, and sometimes even deport immigrants under harsh conditions.
  • The Empire State Building Opens

    this was opened up by President Herbert Hoover. it was created as an office building that was meant to be visually appealing, but mostly to be the tallest in New York. It's important because it's a symbol of New York, and because it was built by mostly poor immigrants, which symbolizes them and they're labor for the U.S.
