At first a smaller number of refugees can come to our town, about 50 people for example and as time passes and they are successfully integrated more can join them. This will help the better and slower adaption to the new environment so that at the end we will all be pleased without mistakes caused by rush -
Housing the refugees in our area can be really challenging. Our main idea is to accommodate them in closed hotels that are still kept in good conditions. For example a hotel in a village near us Neapoli, Hotel Galini used to host refugess in the past so it could be used again. We believe that after some research more hotels can be found. Also another palce where they can stay is the scout huts in Kouri. We are sure that the scouts will be willing to help the municipality and the refugees -
In addition refugees need to be integrated into the workforce so they can make their own money and slowly build up their lives again. Our idea is to create a market showing their culture food and traditions. In other words we can make a store that offers a variety of services, for example a restaurant serving their local cuisine a shop selling handicrafts and handmade products like souvenirs, jewelry or furniture and others. That way they will not have to learn new things but share their culture -
Schools as the primary provider of education and communication need to help them adapt to the new environment. But how can this happen? First and foremost by teaching them our language. Special classes can be made for them and later they can even be adjusted in the main lessons. Also schools can help them fit in and socialize by organizing projects around them and encouraging students to make them feel welcome. Lastly they can teach students about refugees' backgrounds showing their importance. -
All in all we believe this plan will bring positive and crucial changes to our community. First of all it will teach everyone to show empathy and help the ones in need, something really rare nowadays. To continue with it will attract tourist and make our area better known. As a result our economy will be boosted creating new jobs and promoting local shops. Last but not least we will be face to face with a new culture and have the chance to learn new things but also with war's terrible impact.
