March 1857 Dred Scott was an enslaved peoson who was illegal in the North and South, went into the supreme court to fight for the freedom of enslaved African Americans. The court decided that Africans were not citizens and they could not go to court and that living in a free state territory doesn’t mean you are free.

June 16th 1858 Lincoln was appointed to run against Douglas for senate. In a political speech Lincon explained that if the UNited States divided the United States would not be as powerful.

1860; Republicans chose Lincon because of his criticisms of slavery during his election made him popular in the North.

December 20th 1860; Once they knew Lincoln became president sent shock to the south and people were outraged. South Carolina called for a convention and was the first state to succeed from America.
