  • Autonomy versus shame and doubt

Ruby (age 2) is excited to go to daycare and picks out her outfit. The crisis of this stage is that children are focused on developing a greater sense of self control (autonomy).
  • Identity versus confusion

After exploring makeup, and watching a bunch of influencers doing make up tutorials on YouTube. Ruby decides that she might want to be a makeup artist. The crisis in this stage is where they start asking themselves, "who am I " and they start to learn more about their goals, values and their beliefs (Identity). Also, during this stage, the role of confusion could be present if the person isn't committed to any particular identity and feels confused about their place in society.
  • Intimacy versus isolation

Ruby and a close friend of hers hit it off and have been dating for a couple of years now. The crisis in this stage is that this conflict centers on relationships. A person who is able to navigate this period of life successfully ends up having fulfilling relationships (intimacy). As well as, as a person who chooses to be closed off and doesn't attempt to make meaningful relationships tends to be in isolation (isolation)
