Jaxon Southern perspective

  • Period: to

    Slavery

The enslaved people were kidnapped from Africa to be used as property and for farm land, Back in Africa they invaded enslaved people from their homes. The South wanted slavery, and the North didn't want slavery. The South felt that slavery helped the economy, and they needed the enslaved people. this caused a lot of tension between the north and the south and I think this was a major extent.
  • Period: to

    Sectionalism

Sectionalism is when you are more loyal to a particular region than to the nation. They eventually made a line, and above that line didn't have slavery, and below the line they did have slavery. The south thought that the state should be making the decisions. The North was happy, and the South was mad. The South was not happy because more new territories would have no slaves.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
When California entered as a free state, the North was very happy and the South was aggravated. And the people in Utah and New Mexico territories (Mexican cession) would be allowed to vote on the issue of slavery. And the South was very happy because now slavery could spread. They compromised on if a person knew of an escaped slave and didn't notify the authorities, they would have jail time or could be arrested for a while. this is a major conflict, now slaves and people could go to jail.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
At the time, Kansas and Nebraska were 1 state and then they wanted to divide into 2 and then after they split into 2 there was lots and lots of conflict in Kansas. And then there was voting, and if people in Kansas wanted to vote for slavery to be allowed, that wouldn't be good at all. The North and South now have tension because Nebraska could become a slave state. The South was very happy because both Nebraska and Kansas would become slave states. This would definitely be a major conflict.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    Battle of Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was where the first shots of the Civil War were fired on April 12, 1861, The South fired the shots first. Then, the South won the first battle of the Civil War. This caused tension between the North and South because lincon wanted people to join the army and fight. And the south was mad because they didn't want to fight another time in the Civil War.
