Childhood
Johnny is raised by his single mother, Laura, after his father abandoned them when he was a baby.
Laura would marry a rich man named Sid Weinberg a couple years later. Sid constantly abused Johnny verbally and made fun of him for not having any friends. -
Johnny discovers Cobra Kai
In 1979, Johnny found a karate dojo called Cobra Kai, and began training there under his sensei, John Kreese. Kreese taught his students the Way of the Fist, an agressive fighting style he had learnt while overseas in Vietnam. He taught Johnny the Cobra Kai creed of "Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy", turning Johnny into his best and most ruthless student.
Johnny befriended students Bobby, Tommy, Jimmy and Dutch, and they quickly started bullying other students for their weaker demeanor. -
Loss to Darryl Vidal in the 1981 All-Valley Karate Tournament
Johnny continued training hard, and took part in the All Valley Under 18 Karte Tournament in 1981. He only made it through to the quarterfinals, where he lost his fight against eventual champion, Darryl Vidal.
Although Johnny became upset, Kreese saw a look in his eyes that said he would never let that happen again. -
Johnny meets Ali Mills
In 1982, Johnny and his friends would go to a screening of "Rocky III" and notice some girls sitting in front of them. Dutch started throwing Milk Duds at them, until one got up and started yelling at Johnny and dumped popcorn on Dutch.
Johnny would later ask Ali out and they would have their first date at the local arcade, Golf N' Stuff.
For Valentine's Day, Ali gave Johnny his signature black karate headband. -

Johnny would prove Kreese right by winning the next two All Valleys back to back, even manging to win without anyone ever scoring a point on him in 1983 -
Johnny and Ali break up
While out with his friends, Johnny got drunk at a bar and missed Ali's birthday. The two would later get into a fight and break up. -

Rivalry with Daniel LaRusso ("The Karate Kid")

Johnny fights Daniel at the beach
While riding on his motorcycle with his friends, Johnny saw Ali talking to a guy he'd never seen before. Johnny went down to talk to Ali, but to no avail. He then turned off and broke her radio, causing the new kid, Daniel LaRusso to intervene. He would then tell Johnny to knock it off, but Johnny told Daniel to mind his own bussiness and shoved the radio into his chest. Daniel then sucker-punched Johnny, making the latter finish the former off, leaving Daniel lying on the sand with a black eye. -
Halloween 1984
While Johnny was in the bathroom stall, Daniel turned a shower hose on over his head as payback for some harassment a couple weeks prior. Johnny and his friends chased Daniel out into the street, finally cornering him and about to put an end to the rivalry. However, Daniel's new sensei, Mr. Miyagi, showed up to save Daniel, fighting the Cobra Kais off and leaving Johnny with a black eye. -
Miyagi confronts Johnny and Kreese
The following day, Daniel and Mr. Miyagi would go to the Cobra Kai dojo, asking Kreese that his students leave Daniel alone. Kreese refuses, so Miyagi proposes that Daniel and Johnny settle their beef at the 1984 All Valley, and that the rivalry is put aside while Daniel trains for the tournament. -
Aftermath of the tournament
After congratulating Daniel on his victory and handing him his 1st place trophy, Johnny would get into an argument with Kreese in the parking lot. He would tell his sensei that he did his best and call him out for his dirty tactics, thus making Kreese start choking Johnny.
After his friends start begging Kreese to let him go, Mr. Miyagi intervenes and saves Johnny, while simultaneously defeating Kreese and making him injure his own hands. -
1984 All Valley
On the day of the tournament, Johnny climbed his way up to the finals, where he fought LaRusso.
Daniel scored the first two points, making Johnny's nose bleed.
Kreese would then told Johnny to sweep Daniel's leg (which was already injured from Daniel's previous match against Johnny's friend Bobby), horrifying him.
Johnny then starts to fight more aggressively, tying the score 2-2. However, Daniel used the crane technique, kicking Johnny in the face and winning the tournament. -

Interim years
After his defeat, Johnny and his friends all left Cobra Kai, finally seeing how insane Kreese really was.
Johnny went to community college and partied most of his 20s and 30s away. He racked up a police record of public intoxication and fighting, but was spared harsher criminal penalties because of Sid's influence.
Johnny then met a fellow alcoholic named Shannon Keene around the early 2000s. Shannon then became pregnant with Johnny's first son, Robby. -
Johnny's mother Laura passes away
Johnny's mother, the one person who he still cared about and believed in him, passed away. Johnny became depressed and began drinking more heavily after this. -
Johnny's son Robby is born
When Robby was born, Johnny was drunk at a diner while Shannon gave birth in the hospital across the street. This absence carried into Robby's childhood, with Johnny rarely supporting his child or even visiting him. He instead believed that Shannon would be able to handle being a single mother and left. -

Johnny at his lowest
Sid cut Johnny off financially and kicked him out of his house, although he continued to 'look out' for Johnny via his lawyers keeping Johnny's infractions from being more severe then they were. Further rattled by his losses, Johnny kept to his past behavior of being a troublemaker and continued to have illegal blips. He drifted from job to job and moved into a rundown apartment complex in Reseda, where his life reached a stale point of working and being drunk. -
Johnny meets Miguel Díaz
In 2017, while living in Reseda, Johnny is working as a home-improvement worker but is fired after an argument with a persnickety customer. Johnny then meets his new neighbor Miguel, who recently moved from Ecuador along with his single mother, Carmen and grandmother, Rosa -
Johnny saves Miguel
Johnny goes to a convenience store where he encounteres a group of high school students bullying Miguel. The bullies provoke Johnny after they pushed Miguel into his Pontiac Firebird. Johnny then fights the bullies off, resulting in his arrest. Sid bails him out, cutting him off from his life with a check which he gives to Johnny. -
Johnny's car gets wrecked
The next day, Miguel implores Johnny to teach him karate, which johnny intially refuses. Later, while Johnny is contemplating about the past before Daniel LaRusso came into his life, his car gets hit by a group of girls who were texting and driving. Johnny yells at them and calls a tow truck. His car is then towed to the nearest car dealership for repairs, which happens to be owned by none other than Daniel LaRusso himself, owner of LaRusso Auto, in which he uses his karate as a gimmick. -
Johnny and Daniel meet again
The next morning, Johnny comes face to face with Daniel at the dealership. Daniel is happy to see Johnny and has his car repaired for free. While at the dealership, Johnny recognizes one of the teenagers from the night before as none other than Daniel's daughter. After his visit at the dealership, Johnny decides to re-open Cobra Kai and Miguel becomes his first student. -
Johnny starts training Miguel
Johnny begins training Miguel the same way Kreese taught him in the 80s, teasing him for his asthma and low self-esteem as motivation.
Johnny then recieves a phone call from his son Robby's principal telling him that he got caught with drugs at school. Johnny chastises Robby, warning him about the danger of drugs and alcohol, but Robby rebuffs him, telling Johnny that if that's true, he'll just become like his father. -
Daniel confronts Johnny at the Cobra Kai dojo
Another time Johnny was in his office filling out insurance forms, when he's approached by Daniel over the matter of being arrested for the fight with the teens, as one of them was currently dating his daughter, Samantha. Johnny then tells Daniel that the bully (Kyler) was harassing Miguel, and that he saved him from geting beat up by Kyler and his friends. -
Halloween 2017
At the halloween dance, Johnny gives Miguel his skeleton costume from 1984 and goes around the school hanging up flyers for the dojo. However, he later finds Miguel unconscious and beaten up in the boys' locker room, learning that Kyler once again beat Miguel up. Johnny then visits Miguel's mother, Carmen, and asks that she let him continue training Miguel, which she accepts. -

Miguel progresses in his training
After the Halloween fight, Johnny trains Miguel even harder, teaching him to defend himself. As his skills improve, Johnny gets another student, Aisha, who's benn bullied by Samantha LaRusso's friends at school. While Johnny initially disapproves of her joining, he accepts when she beats Miguel in a sparring session. -
Johnny gets more students
After months of training, Miguel finally stands up to Kyler at school and fights him off after he insulted Sam. Since everyone at school saw this, everyone is lining up to join Cobra Kai. Miguel's friends, Demetri and Eli also join, but Johnny makes fun of Eli's cleft lip, making him run off and Demetri quit -
Eli becomes Hawk
The next day, Johnny teaches his new students, Aisha and Miguel, that life is unfair and that they have to deal with it. Suddenly, Eli returns with a mohawk and a back tatoo, following Johnny's advice of "flipping the script", earning the nickname "Hawk" -
Johnny goes to the All Valley Sports Comittee
After giving Miguel advice on asking Samantha out, Johnny tries to sign Cobra Kai up for the 2018 All Valley, but learn that they have been banned for life (due to Kreese, Terry Silver and Mike Barnes' unethical tactics against Daniel in 1985). He then goes to talk to the All Valley Sports Committee, making his case about how he has impacted and changed Miguel's and others' lives by teaching them self defense. Eventually, the ban is lifted. -
Johnny finds out Daniel is training Robby
After Daniel's cousin Louie and some thugs destroy Johnny's car, Daniel gives him a new one from his dealership and they spend the day reminiscing about their childhoods. They seem to be getting along well, until Johnny drives Daniel home and finds Robby there. When Daniel reveals that he's teaching Robby Miyagi-Do, Johnny is enraged and shoves Daniel into a wall, cutting ties with him. -
2018 All Valley
Johnny goes to the All-Valley Tournament with his class, where he motivates them that they struck first to earn their way there. Miguel and Hawk advance to the semifinals, and Robby is fighting unaffiliated.
However, in the semifinals, Hawk injures Robby's shoulder, and Miguel beats Robby in the finals using a cheap shot, causing Johnny to realize that he may have corrupted his students and gone too far. -
Kreese returns
After getting drunk and reflecting about his students, Johnny's old sensei, John Kreese appears at the dojo and congratulates Johnny on his win. Johnny is shocked that he's alive, and he starts fighting him, but shows mercy when he has Kreese in a chokehold and remembers how Kreese almost killed him 34 years ago. -
Johnny scolds Miguel and Hawk
When Johnny returns with Kreese to the dojo, he scolds Miguel and Hawk for fighting dirty against Robby in the All Valley and makes his students train by moving cement inside a cement truck, impressing Kreese. -
Johnny has a heart to heart with Miguel
When Miguel and Hawk find out the only reason Johnny scolded them is due to Robby being his son, he tells them to mind their bussiness, but later takes Miguel out to dinner, telling him about how he has failed Robby since his birth and wants to be there for Miguel since he couldn't for Robby. -
Valley Fest
When Daniel advertises Miyagi-Do karate as a tuition-free dojo, Johnny believes Daniel is attempting to steal his customers. A demonstration by Miyagi-Do at a carnival is upstaged by Cobra Kai, who give the crowd a rousing performance set to hard rock music. Johnny ends the show by smashing several wood blocks that are on fire. The next day, Johnny is able to recruit two new students; hardware store owner Stingray who wants to achieve his childhood dream, and female teenager Tory Nichols. -
Miyagi-Do gets vandalized
After Demitri joins Miyagi-Do and gives Cobra Kai a bad review on Yelp, Hawk ambushes him at the mall and threatens him, but he's defeated by Sam and Robby. After his girlfriend breaks up with him, Kreese tells Hawk to vandalize the Miyagi-Do dojo. When Daniel, Robby and Sam find it destroyed, Daniel goes to confront Johnny, who had nothing to do with it. -
Johnny reunites with his old friends
Johnny tells Kreese to take over training for the day after Johnny gets a call from his old friend Tommy, and visits him in the hospital, alongside Bobby and Jimmy. The four spend the day together and have a good time, but Tommy unfortunately passes away in his sleep the next morning. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Johnny, Kreese recieves ownership of the dojo from Johnny's landlord. -
Robby and Sam crash at Johnny's place
After arriving home, Robby knocks on Johnny's door and shows up with a drunken Sam. He explains to Johnny that she got into a drinking contest with Tory at a party between Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do, and that he doesn't want Daniel to see her like this. He allows them to spend the night. -
Johnny asks out Carmen
After learning from Miguel that Kreese has corrupted his students, Johnny expels him from the dojo. He also asks out Miguel's mother, Carmen, after beating up her ex, who was planning to dump her soon. He and Carmen meet Daniel and his wife Amanda at a mexican restaurant and while the ladies are away, Daniel tells Johnny that he enrolled Robby in school (due to Robby's mother going to rehab and not being able to bay the bills), which he greatly appreciates. -
Johnny rushes to the hospital
After Miguel is rushed to the hospital as a result of Robby kicking him off a railing at school, Johnny goes to the hospital. At the hospital, Carmen blames Johnny for Miguel's injury and tells him she does not want to see him again. Johnny listens to a voicemail Miguel left earlier and peeks in Miguel's room, who is lying unconscious, causing him to cry and feel guilty. -
Daniel fights Johnny at his apartment
Johnny tells Robby the following morning that he will have to tell Daniel what happened, but Robby tells him not to and that he will take the fall. However, when Daniel knocks on Johnny's door, Johnny admits that Sam is inside but does not allow in Daniel until he calms down, and shuts the door. Daniel then kicks the door open and the two have a brief fight until Sam and Robby intervene. Daniel angrily takes Sam home. -
Kreese takes over the dojo
Johnny goes back to the dojo where he sees Kreese training several of his students. Kreese tells him he and a landlord made a agreement for him to take full ownership of the dojo. Several of Johnny's students are now training with Kreese, and Hawk blames him for Miguel's injury. Feeling betrayed by Kreese and his students, Johnny angrily leaves the dojo, but not before telling Kreese that if he wants Cobra Kai; it's his. -
The school brawl
Johnny takes Robby to his first day of school and ignores a phone call from Miguel. Unbeknownst to Johnny and Daniel, a brawl breaks out between their dojos after Tory reveleals that a drunk Sam kissed Miguel at the party the night before. as the fight ensues, Tory fights Sam while Miguel fights Robby. When Miguel pins Robby to the ground, he remembers what Johnny taught him and shows mercy. Robby, however, lashes out and angrily kicks Miguel, accidentaly knocking him off the balcony. -

Johnny begins drinking heavily again
After the brawl, Johnny spends his days at bars drinking in order to soothe his problems, getting in to a brawl with some guys after they mock Miguel when he shows up on TV. -
Johnny and Daniel search for Robby
Daniel shows up at Johnny's place and enlists his help to find Robby before the police does. They manage to track down a van that Robby stole from LaRusso Auto and follow it to a garage. There, they fight the guys who stole it off, but Daniel stops Johnny from beating one of them further. Johnny yells at him and drives off in the van.
Meanwhile, Miguel wakes up from his coma. -
Johnny talks to Bobby
Johnny learns that Robby was apprehended by the police and serving time in a juvenile detention center. Johnny visits Bobby at a church in which he serves as a pastor. He talks to Johnny and helps him realize that both Miguel and Robby need him right now, and that's what matters. Johnny wants to visit Robby but isn't allowed to due to his probation. Bobby offers his help, and also helps fund Miguel's surgery to walk again, though it isn't enough to help Miguel. -
Johnny visits his stepfather Sid
Johnny visits his stepfather Sid to ask him to donate towards Miguel's fund, though Sid refuses with crude comments about Miguel. Johnny leaves angrily but spots an expensive artifact on a podium near the door. He steals the artifact and pawns it for $2,500 which is the exact amount needed to cover Miguel's surgery. He donates the money anonymously the next day. -
Johnny visits Robby in Juvie
Despite being scheduled to meet with Robby and Bobby at SJDC, Johnny stays to support Miguel. After Miguel's surgery, he leaves the hospital to find Robby who is serving community service. He attempts to speak with Robby, though Robby becomes angry when Johnny mentions Miguel and tries to reprimand Robby for his actions. He regrets his words and grabs Robby's arm, which leads to the boy jerking away and spilling a bucket of soup everywhere. Johnny is escorted out of the building by security. -
Johnny motivates Miguel
Johnny goes to see a now awake Miguel who expresses his defeat for not being able to move his legs. He can't reach his phone and Johnny offers to help, pushing the tray away. He commands Miguel to get up, walk over, and grab the phone for himself like a champion. Miguel does as instructed, but falls out of the bed and onto the floor, much to Johnny's chagrin. -

Johnny helps Miguel start walking again
Johnny is intent on helping Miguel walk again, and visits him everyday at his apartment, using funny techniques to help him walk, like lighting his shoelaces on fire. They all fail as Miguel still can't walk. Johnny is then inspired to take Miguel to a Dee Snider concert. Johnny is elated to see that Miguel is subconsciously tapping his foot to the beat of the music, an act he is able to continue on command after. -
Johnny helps Miguel stand up
While spending the day with Miguel taking pictures for Johnny's Facebook page, Miguel breaks up with Tory. When they return to Johnny's apartment, Miguel's emotions explode as he blames Johnny for his situation. He calls Johnny weak for letting Kreese steal his students away from him. Johnny argues he should have never brought back Cobra Kai, but during the argument, he notices Miguel walking closer to him. He points out the steps and their argument disappears over their mutual happiness. -
Johnny recruits students for his new dojo
When Miguel goes back to school and learns that Hawk and Cobra Kai have been corrupted by Kreese, Johnny goes over there and tells Hawk that he was the one that made him what he is, not Kreese, telling him and the rest of the students that Kreese doesn't care about them. He then tells them to consider joining his new dojo, Eagle Fang Karate -
City Council meeting
Johnny focuses his attention on the cancelled All Valley Karate Tournament due to the school brawl. He attends a city council meeting to fight for the tournament alongside Kreese and Daniel, who are also in attendance. The rivaling sensei's begin to argue in front of the council, shedding a negative light on the tournament and convincing the council to cancel the event. It isn't until Miguel and Sam take the podium that they are able to save the tournament. -
Johnny and Ali reconnect
Johnny sees that Ali is in town for the Christmas holiday and wants to meet. He agrees, so they meet for lunch before revisiting their youth at Golf 'N Stuff. She invites him to a charity gala that evening which he happily agrees to attend. The evening is surprisingly pleasant, thanks to the presence of Amanda and Ali. When the night is over, Ali admits that she thinks Johnny and Daniel don't like each other because they see parts of themselves in the other that they don't like. -
Johnny and Daniel fight Kreese
When Johnny comes home, he sees blood on Miguel's face and learns that Cobra Kai ambushed Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang at the LaRusso house. Johnny goes to confront Kreese, who is training Robby. Kreese asks Johnny to join him, but he angrily refuses, attacking Kreese and nearly killing him. robby intervenes and is knocked unconscious. Krees then chokes Johnny until he is saved by Daniel, who immobilizes Kreese and almost finishes him off. -
The deal
Kreese wants to settle things the old-fashioned way with a tournament. The losing dojo will leave the valley. Johnny and Daniel agree to the terms just as Robby emerges from the dojo telling them all to leave. He and Daniel then unite their dojos as they train for the tournament -
Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang start training together
Johnny's alliance with Daniel has a rocky start, as the opposing senseis struggle to work together, despite their shared goals. Johnny hazes Hawk into Eagle Fang while Daniel attempts meditation with the Miyagi-Dos. The two end their individual classes angrily, having gotten into a heated argument over their differing styles of karate. The next day, they learn that Hawk has come up with an idea to build an Okinawan sparring deck to serve as a bridge between the two dojos. -
Switching styles
The men agree that learning one another's karate styles will help them respect and understand one another. Johnny learns defensive strategies, how to find his inner-balance, and goes through the basics of Miyagi-Do karate. He is impressed by the strength that comes with the style. Daniel goes through the grueling process of Eagle Fang, including climbing a chain rope, knuckle pushups, learning to become aggressive instead of defensive, and facing his fears. -
Johnny and Daniel attend a hockey game
The men ultimately grow closer and attend a hockey game together as part of Daniel's training, though Johnny creates tension between Daniel and the hockey team. As Daniel fights with the team, Johnny exercises Daniel's Miyagi-Do advice of "no be there". -
Daniel trains the Eagle Fang students
Daniel starts teaching Miyagi-Do to Miguel, Hawk and the others, having them wait patiently in order to catch a fish from a Koi pond. Johnny sees Daniel bonding with Miguel and gets jealous. -
Johnny trains the Miyagi-Do students
Like Daniel, Johnny teaches Eagle Fang to Sam, Demetri and the other Miyagi-Do students, having Sam jump from one building to another. This changes Sam’s beahvior and mindset, upsetting Daniel. -
Robby confronts Johnny about his students
Robby confronts Johnny about Hawk bullying a new kid, Kenny, who's in Cobra Kai. Johnny warns Robby not to do anything bad and reminds him of his expulsion. He also tells him about Cobra Kai and how Kreese is brainwashing him the same way he got brainwashed. -
Daniel and Johnny are confronted by Terry Silver and Kreese
At Miyagi-Do, Johnny hears his students about Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang's confrontation with Cobra Kai at the drive-in: Miguel avoided a fight by drenching Cobra Kai with sprinklers from a baseball stadium. He gets upset with Miguel's trick but Daniel praises it and tells Johnny that they ended a fight without getting hurt. As Johnny is going to talk to Daniel, Silver and his former sensei Kreese arrive at Miyagi-Do. -
Daniel and Johnny split dojos
When Hawk arrives, he shows both dojos that his mohawk was nearly shaved off by Robby. Johnny says that Cobra Kai will pay, but Daniel rejects the idea. He chastises him for praising Miguel for the sprinkler incident but Daniel counters that his teachings would land his students in the hospital or jail. Realizing the merge failed, Eagle Fang leaves. -
Johnny vs. Daniel rematch
At a bar, Johnny gets mad when Daniel tells him about Silver and because of his history with him, he will take over the training. He agrees on a rematch with Daniel and whoever wins, one of them will take over the training. Later, Johnny begins his training while remembering his encounters with Daniel. The two fight where Daniel and Johnny tie the score, with Johnny managing to counter Daniel's pressure point technique. They both fall in the last round, but are unaware of who won. -

Johnny searches for female students for the All Valley
Johnny learns about the new updates for the tournament. He gets upset with them but Miguel adds that they need a female member. Johnny and Miguel go to the West Valley High School soccer field to find a female student but fails. Johnny and Miguel go with Bert to watch a debate trial. They watch a person named Devon Lee during the debate. Her quick tempered personality impressed Johnny and recruits her to Eagle Fang. -
Junior prom
When Johnny gets home, Shannon Keene explains that Silver gave Robby a car and Shannon money. When Johnny goes to Cobra Kai, he answers Silver's call and tells him to stay away from Robby. He threatens to beat him up and Silver tells him to go to the original Cobra Kai dojo. When he arrives, Silver fights him and defeats him, but is spared by Kresse's orders. After the fight, Johnny drowns his sorrows in alcohol. When Miguel brings him to his room, Johnny calls him Robby, upsetting him. -
2019 All Valley
After losing the skills competition and having all of his fighters except Miguel eliminated, Johnny starts coaching Hawk and Sam in order to help. Hawk (now in Miyagi-Do) fights Miguel in the semifinals, but advances by forfeit after Miguel pulls a muscle and refuses to continue fighting due to Johnny wanting him to fight out of pride. Hawk wins the boys division against Robby, while Sam fights Tory in the girls final. Both Johnny and Daniel coach her, but she eventually loses to Tory. -
Johnny and Robby make ammends
After losing the All Valley, Johnny goes to the old Cobra Kai dojo and finds Robby, who apologizes to him about taking his anger out on him, Daniel and Miguel. He explains that his mentorship with Kenny failed and now Silver has corrupted him. They hug and reconcile.
However, Johnny learns from Carmen and Rosa that Miguel left in the middle of the finals to go to Mexico, in search for his biological father. Johnny offers to go save him, but Carmen warns Johnny that he's a very dangerous man. -
Johnny and Robby go to Mexico to find Miguel
Johnny takes Robby with him to Mexico after the tournament on a "father-son road trip" in order to rescue Miguel. Robby protests, but decides to stay with his father after helping him fight off some Australian scammers who attempted to pickpocket Johnny. -
Robby wins a pepper-eating contest
When Johnny's van gets towed, Johnny and Robby participate in a pepper-eating contest for 4000 Pesos. Robby wins by eating the hottest pepper in the competition, although in reality, he swapped it for a piece of candy Johnny gave him earlier. -
Johnny fights an MMA fighter
After getting directions from Miguel's mother, Johnny and Robby head to an underground fighting ring dressed in "Female Body Inspector" shirts, looking for Héctor. His bodyguards mistake them for the feds, so Johnny fights his way through by defeating an MMA fighter with help from Robby. -
Johnny finds Miguel
When Miguel finally realizes how evil his father really is, he goes outside and finds Johnny and Robby there. He hugs his sensei and calls his mother, saying that he'll be home soon. -
Johnny finds out Carmen is pregnant
When Johnny comes back from Mexico, he's done with karate for good, honoring his deal with Kreese. He then finds out Carmen is pregnant, exciting him. He then gets advice from Shannon and gets a job at a rideshare service to earn extra money for the family. -
Miguel and Robby squash their beef
With Kreese gone and a baby on the way, Johnny focuses on the last piece of the puzzle: Miguel and Robby. After seeing Daniel depressed, he suggests that the boys fight each other until they wear out.
Johnny does just that, but he gets worried when the fight escalates and the boys go upstairs to the balcony. However, Miguel (who had the upper hand) spares Robby and they both apologize to each other, with Johnny accidentally revealing that Carmen is pregnant, exciting the boys. -
Johnny and Chozen look for Terry Silver
After Daniel gets severely beaten by Terry Silver, Johnny and Daniel's friend Chozen go to one of Silver's many Cobra Kai dojos, seeking revenge.
They encounter one of Silver's new senseis, who fights the duo off, not before retreating. -
Johnny and Daniel visit Kreese in prison.
After being framed by Silver for a crime he didn't commit, Kreese wound up in prison. Johnny and Daniel seek his help in order to find out what Silver is up to, in exchange for a good lawyer who can get the charges dropped. Kreese reveals that Silver is planning on entering Cobra Kai to the Sekai Taikai, the world's most elite karate tournament; meaning that Cobra Kai would go global if they won. -
Cobra Kai, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang qualify for the Sekai Taikai
After Silver's meeting with the Sekai Taikai committee, Johnny and Daniel convince them to give them a shot at qualifying as well. They decide that the spot will be given to the winning dojo in a match. As Hawk and Kenny fight, they realize Silver is cheating, so Cobra Kai gets the win. However, Sam wins her fight against Devon (who's in Cobra Kai now) and earns Miyagi-Do a spot in the tournament as well. Johnny and Carmen tell Daniel and Amanda about the baby and they go out to celebrate. -
Johnny, Daniel and Chozen get their limo hijacked
While out celebrating, Chozen, Daniel and Johnny get their limousine hijacked by Mike Barnes, whose store Silver had burnt down in revenge for helping Daniel and Chozen. A vengeful Barnes and drunken Johnny and Chozen head to Silver's mansion to confront him, while Daniel is rescued by Stingray and taken to the Cobra Kai dojo, where the students are trying to expose Silver for bribing the referee in the All Valley (giving them the win). -
Johnny, Chozen and Mike face Silver and his goons
As Johnny, Chozen and Mike break into Silver's mansion, they're faced by Silver and his senseis. While Johnny and Mike fend them off, Chozen duels Silver to the death, resulting in Chozen being wounded because of a cheap shot. While Mike is lying unconscious, Johnny is nearly killed, but gets a rage boos by seeing a sonogram of his unborn daughter and defeats the five senseis with some help from Mike. -
Silver is defeated (for now, at least...)
As Johnny, Mike and Chozen return to the Cobra Kai dojo, they find Daniel squaring off against Silver, defeating him with the crane kick. As they watch him get arrested, they learn Kreese has faked his death and escaped prison, fleeing from the US. -
Johnny and Daniel combine dojo names
As Daniel, Chozen and Johnny begin training for the Sekai Taikai, they get into an argument about the new dojo name and logo, with Daniel and Chozen defending Miyagi's legacy. In the end, Johnny realizes that (to some extent) Eagle Fang is just another version of Cobra Kai, so he agrees on the name, but they upgrade the logo. -
Chozen and Johnny go house hunting
After a leak appears in the Díaz household, Chozen takes Johnny to go look for a new home. After a few failed attempts, one owner turns out to be a Johnny superfan who watched him go undefeated in the 1983 All-Valley. They reach an agreement and Johnny leaves happy. -
Johnny starts working at LaRusso Auto
Since nobody gets paid at Miyagi-Do, Daniel offers Johnny a job at the dealership as a salesman, and it goes surprisingly well. Many customers are pleased with Johnny and leave good reviews. -
Johnny hosts a slumber party
After seeing that Sam and Tory are holding back due to their newfound friendship while training, Johnny hosts a slumber party and Devon's house to get them arguing again. Althoug he fails, the spark is back, making them improve their fighting. -

Mike Barnes helps select the dojo's 6 Sekai Taikai competitors
When it's revealed that only six fighters from each dojo will compete, Johnny and Daniel bring in Mike Barnes to help select their top students. Miguel, Robby, Sam and Tory are chosen first, while Devon, Kenny, Demetri and Hawk will have to compete in a tiebreaker contest to determine who the last two fighters will be. -
Johnny fights Mike
When Johnny seeks Mike to see if Devon made the cut, Mike tells him 'no' and mocks Johnny. After trading insults, the two start fighting, with Johnny eventually winning by using Miyagi-Do techniques to his advantage. -
Captain fights
After declaring Demetri and Devon the winners of the tiebreaker contest, Miguel, Robby, Sam and Tory fight each other for the spot of male/female team captain. Miguel is leading 2-0, but Robby gains motivation after seeing Tory arrive and makes a comeback, winning the match 3-2.
Johnny referees Sam and Tory's fight, but Daniel senses Tory is fighting more agressively than usual, stopping the fight. Tory reveals that her mother just passed away, and accuses Daniel and Amanda of favoring Sam. -
Johnny and Daniel argue (again)
After Tory storms off, Johnny and Daniel get into an argument, with Johnny backing Tory's decision to keep fighting for her mother. Daniel however, says that "it's not the Miyagi-Do way", so Johnny starts insulting Miyagi, saying that he knows about his secrets (Daniel discovered a hidden box of Miyagi's keepsakes). Daniel sucker-punches Johnny and attempts to apologize, but Johnny coldly says that after the tournament, the two of them will go their separate ways. -
Miyagi-Do arrives in Barcelona for the Sekai Taikai
Johnny, Daniel, Miguel, Robby, Sam, Devon, Demetri and Hawk (Tory's replacement) arrive in Barcelona for the tournament, and see the other dojos, including a new branch of Cobra Kai from Korea led by Kreese and with Tory on their side. -
Johnny meets sensei Wolf and confronts Kreese
While at a mixer, Johnny meets another sensei by the name Wolf. Before they can get into a fight, Daniel de-escalates the situation.
Johnny confronts Kreese about his escape from prison and questions how he was able to flee the country unnoticed. Kreese then tells Johnny that he no longer has a soft spot for him and that he wants payback. -
Miyagi-Do goes on a losing streak
While Daniel goes to find out more about Mr. Miyagi's past, Johnny coaches the team for the first few matches, which end in defeat, due to Robby being rattled over Tory joining Cobra Kai and nobody (except Miguel) bringing their A-game. Johnny tries motivating them, but Miguel holds some anger towards Robby, and Devon comes clean about cheating in the tiebreaker contest to Johnny. -
Miyagi-Do vs. Dublin Thunder
The next day, Johnny apologizes to Daniel for his behavior and encourages the students to use Miyagi-Do in their fight against the Irish dojo. After all of their fightters are elimitaed, Miguel wins a 1v2, securing the team's first win. This victory is cut short, however, due to Johnny and Miguel having to leave due to Carmen having pregnancy troubles back at the Valley. -
Johnny and Miguel fly back to California
While on the plane, Johnny apologizes to Miguel for neglecting him up until that point, explaining, that Robby needed his support because he was rattled, while Miguel was performing very well. After Johnny calls Miguel "son", Miguel breaks down in Johnny's arms.
After a drunk passenger starts arguing with Johnny, Miguel punches him in the face.
When they arrive at the hospital, they find out that Carmen is fine, and she tells them to go back to Barcelona and win the tournament. -
Terry Silver returns
Johnny and Miguel return to Barcelona with Kenny (as a replacement for Devon), only to find out from Daniel and Chozen that Silver is back, and that he's the owner of the Iron Dragons, the tournament's current leading dojo. Chozen, Daniel and Johnny steal Kreese's "Eunjangdo" to make him shift his focus on Silver. The students don't trust Kenny at first, but after Robby gives him a chance to prove himself in a tag team match, Kenny secures a victory for the team and flips Silver off. -
Miyagi-Do vs. Cobra Kai
As the team heads into the final rounds of the Sekai Taikai, they face of against Kreese's new Cobra Kai from Korea. After an inspirational speech from their senseis and Robby, Hawk, Demetri and Kenny tag each other continuously to wear their opponent out and tie the score. Robby finally locks in after learning that Kwon (Kreese's star pupil) was playing mind games with him and secures Miyagi-Do a spot in the semifinals. -
Johnny and Daniel train Sam and Robby for the semifinals
Daniel and Johnny bicker again but the bickering is stopped by Miguel. He reminds the two rivals to get over their current situations and has them resume training them. The training methods involve Robby and Sam exploring different parts of Barcelona where they review combos and undergo intense cardio, which rejuvenates the Miyagi-Do captains. -
Robby vs. Axel Kovačević
In the semifinals, Robby faces Axel Kovačević, the Iron Dragons' team captain, who is undefeated. He has a hard time both attacking and defending Axel`s blows, but when Axel shoves Robby into Kwon out of hatred for Miguel (since Sam turned Axel down and Miguel is her boyfriend), Kwon hits Robby's midsection, which Miguel and Chozen call him out for. When they try to intervene, Axel shoves Miguel and a brawl between all the dojos erupts. -
Kwon's death
Suddenly, a loud scream is emitted from the main stage: Kwon, while fighting Axel, had found Kreese's Eunjangdo and intended to murder axel with it, but while trying to execute a kick, Axel blocked it with a kick of his own, causing Kwon to fall on the knife, killing himself. Everyone present stares in shock as Gunther, the host yells to cut the feed. -
Johnny saves Kreese and defeats Terry Silver
While Robby is fighting Kwon and Cobra Kai, Miguel is fighting Axel and Tory is fighting the Iron Dragons female captain, Zara, Kreese goes after Silver. Johnny sees this and goes after him. Kreese tries to kill Terry with his Eunjangdo, but realizes it's missing, so they engage in hand-to-hand combat. Silver gains the upper hand, and is about to kill Kreese, when Johnny sucker-kicks him in the face and defeats him after a brief scuffle.
