Saul is anointed king by Samuel. -
David was anointed by Samuel. He was anointed after Saul had done a sin, then Samuel was sad, so God told him to anoint David instead. He was anointed in private when he was in his early teens. -
David defeats Goliath. Wins the war for the Israelites at Gath. -
David is promoted to Saul's amour bearer. He also plays music for him. -
At Jonathan's warning (and Michal’s), David flees from Saul to Samuel at Ramah (1Sam 19).
Michal remains behind with Saul. An evil spirit caused Saul to pursue David, but he is stopped by the Spirit of God at Ramah. -
David and Jonathan covenant together. They make it at Ramah and there hearts are still knit together. -
David spared King Saul's life at least twice, first in a cave at En-gedi and again in the Wilderness of Ziph. In the cave incident, David's men urged him to kill the sleeping Saul, but David instead cut off a piece of Saul's robe. He later confronted Saul, showing him the torn robe as proof that he had spared his life. -
David is banished from Saul's court. He will be on the run from Saul for awhile now. -
David defeats Jerusalem. He then decides to live there. -
Samuel dies. He is buried in Ramah -
Ark returned to Jerusalem to a tent. The tabernacle remains in Gibeon.
David desires to build a temple to house the ark. God sends Nathan to David with the
David Covenant instead, promising a perpetual throne to his offspring -
David wants Bathsheba, 'kidnaps' her, and lays with her. To cover it up he sends Bathsheba's husband to war and he gets killed. Then he marries Bathsheba. -
Samuel reigned for king for 40 years. His reign ended when David became king when Saul had sinned and disappointed God.
