  • National Labor Union founded

    The National Labor Union was formed to fix problems that the workers had. Things like wages, working hours and safety were the main things that they fought for. They also fought for the end of child labor in the factories.
  • The Knights of Labor formed

    This labor union was formed from all the workers who were striking against the national railroad. They wanted 8 hour work days and wanted restrictions on child labor. This labor union was special in the fact that they wanted to unite all the labor unions to make an unstoppable force, also they didn't like striking to get their point across.
  • Great Railroad Strike of 1877

    The Great Railroad Strike of 1877 was a massive industrial strike that began in West Virginia and spread across the United States. It was sparked by wage cuts in several major railroad companies, leading to a nation-wide stoppage of railroad traffic. The strike was significant as the first national labor event in US history and a turning point for the American labor movement.
  • Haymarket Riot

    The Haymarket Riot was a violent confrontation that occurred on May 4, 1886, at Haymarket Square in Chicago, Illinois, during a labor protest. It started as a peaceful rally in support of workers' demands for an eight-hour workday, but a bomb was thrown into the crowd, leading to a deadly clash between police and protesters.
  • Homestead Strike

    The Homestead Strike was a significant labor dispute in 1892 between the Carnegie Steel Company and the Amalgamated Association of Iron and Steel Workers at the Homestead Steel Works in Homestead, Pennsylvania.
  • Pullman Strike

    The Pullman Strike, which occurred in 1894, was a major labor dispute that crippled rail traffic nationwide. It stemmed from wage cuts and high rents at the Pullman Sleeping Car Company, leading to a strike by company workers and a subsequent boycott by the American Railway Union.
