Assassins kill Tsar Nicholas II and most of the Romanov's, apart from Anastasia. Britain is blamed for this, due to the use of British merchant ships by the perpetrators. British-Russian relations fall apart. Russia declares Scandinavia under their sphere of influence to protect their interests.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria- Hungary is shot and killed in Serbia during an attempt to reach a peaceful compromise to the growing issues. Austria-Hungary seeks vengeance; it demands the Berlin Conference agreements be upheld and calls for Serbia to surrender to Habsburg rule. Serbia refuses, and Austria-Hungary declares war.
Russia sides with Serbia in this war as Germany joins with Austria-Hungary. -
Russia moves into Galicia and Eastern Prussia; these groups have limited leviathan support. Most Russian leviathans are centered around St. Petersburg for a Northern offensive.

Germany and France clash in Western Europe. The first large-scale battles between leviathans since the Battle of Tendra Island take place.

German forces conquer much of Belgium and begin their move to Paris. The Germans make better use of their leviathans squadrons in coordinating with ground troops, assisting their early success.

Russia declares war on the Scandinavian Union to fortify the North from leviathan attacks and secure eteroid supplies from German or British markets. Britain declares war on Russia in defense of British interests in Scandinavia. Russia moves a massive leviathan fleet into the region. Again, Britain responds in kind.

France offers Corsica to Italy in return for their support in the war. Italy agrees and quickly declares war on Austria- Hungary and Germany. Clashes between Austria-Hungary and Italy break out over the entire Adriatic coastline.

Germany is crushed in the Battle of
the Marne when French leviathans deploy troops behind German lines. German forces completely break and retreat to the border. Germans begin construction on fortresses and fortifications to protect against leviathan attacks. -
Britain and France remain at peace officially, but skirmishes still occur along the English Channel. Both sides are actively trying to prevent opening another battlefront in the Great War.
