Demetrius First Day at Daycare: Trust vs Mistrust
Demetrius is starting daycare at 3 months old because his mother has to return to work after being on maternity leave. In Erikson’s first stage, trust versus mistrust the crisis is between having to learn to trust his teachers at daycare or mistrust because of them being unresponsive to his needs. Going from trusting his parents to relying on a stranger to warm up his milk, burp him and give him the attention he needs. -
Potty Training: Autonomy vs Shame and Doubt
2 yr old Demetrius is starting to play independently and asks for certain foods he wants. His parents are starting to potty train him but he cries often when being forced to go. In Erikson’s second stage, Autonomy versus shame and doubt the crisis is between being happy to choose what he wants for lunch and excited about wearing boxers but not wanting to use the potty out of fear. -
The weekend: Initiative vs Guilt
When the weekend comes along Demetrius is excited to paint with his new set he got as an early Christmas gift from his Aunt while she was in town. In Erikson’s third stage, Initiative versus guilt the crisis is between being excited about his paints that he starts painting right after getting home from preschool when mom told him to wait until after dinner and him getting scolded for not listening when he wanted to try it on his own and him feeling bad and mother feeling guilty.
