    Jean Piaget

    Theory of cognitive development follows four stages. He believes with maturation comes more knowledges, and that children can't do certain things if they are not a certain age.
  • Cognitive Science

    This was a major development to literacy education because it gave a better understanding of the brain process when reading. Findings from this research was put into instruction then by helping educators understand how students learn to read.
  • National Reading Panel

    This was a report of essential aspect to teaching, also known as the "Big Five." This includes phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and compression. This research helped educators to know what to focus on while instructing reading and how to use more effective methods.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    This law was passed to promote student learning through research-based instruction. Under this, schools saw more tests to gain insight into student progress and ensure they were improving.
  • Every Student Succeeds Act

    A law that was passed to ensure all students received a high level of education that was of equal opportunity. This law replaced the "No Child Left Behind Act" and took off with it. This law studies the achievement gaps presented and attempts to expand opportunity for all.
