  • My First Ever Favorite Book

    My First Ever Favorite Book

In 1st grade, I remember going down to our school's library and picking out books for reading time with my class. While I was strolling around and looking at shelves, this one book caught my eye and I chose it. After reading it, it became one of my favorites as I was hooked immediately to its story and the illustrations drawn. It was called, "My Teacher Sleeps in School" by Leattie Weiss, and after reading this book, I believed for a short period of time that teachers actually lived in schools.
  • Second Grade

    Second Grade

Reading books was my hobby back then, and I loved going down to my schools library. But, I had a favorite author of all time and I read every single one of his books available in my school's library. His name was Mo Willems, and he was known for writing books such as, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," and "Knuffle Bunny." I remember I discovered his books in Second grade after seeing my classmates read his books, and his work always got me hooked.
  • I Survived Books

    I Survived Books

In Third grade, I started to develop a liking for historical books, and a specific series I remember reading daily was the "I Survived" series. They would always be on my bookshelves at home, and my favorite in particular was "I Survived Hurricane Katrina."
  • Fictional Stories

    Fictional Stories

Towards the end of my Fourth grade year, our teacher told us to write fictional stories about any topic we want. I remember writing a 14-page story about two sisters who go on adventures with each other and travel around the world. This was one of the first pieces I wrote as a writer during my elementary years.
  • Favorite Graphic Novel

    Favorite Graphic Novel

I started getting into graphic novels towards the middle of 5th grade, and one in particular was the novel, "Smile" by Raina Telegemier. Reading this book during class was a fond memory I have, and soon after I would continue reading more novels such as "Ghosts" and the sequels, "Sisters," and "Guts." Telegemier's work always put a smile on my face during the school, and I still love it even to this day.
  • Harry Potter Series

    Harry Potter Series

The beginning of my 7th grade year my science teacher introduced me to the series, Harry Potter. I've heard of the movies before at this time, but have never read the series as they seemed very lengthy. However, after letting me borrow one of his copies, I was immediately hooked onto the story line and finished the whole series in a month. I'll forever love the series and will say they are 100% better than the movies.
  • ICE Activities

    ICE Activities

In middle school, I remember vividly doing these essay activities that would use the prompt, "ICE" which stands for Introduction, Citation, and Explain. We would write these essays in groups on a certain topic, and whoever got the most points would get candy.

    Favorite Book Read in Class

Last year, my sophomore year, I was assigned to read a novel called, "The Catcher in the Rye." While reading it, I found it as such an interesting book, and the character and plot of the story got me addicted to it. I loved reading this book, and I even got an A on the essay assigned too! I would definitely reread this book, and it spoke volume about certain topics as well.
