    Miguel Hidalgo along with Juan Aldama, Ignacio Allende and Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez began having secret meetings to discuss their independence movement. They said they were having book clubs so they would not get caught.     Arrest of Epigmenio Gonzalez- INITIATION
    After Marino Galvan told the news about the conspiracy to his superior, who told the audiencia in Mexico. They sent Spanish authorities on this date to search Epigmenio Gonzalez’s house in Queretaro.     Grito de Dolores-INITIATION
    Doña Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez told Ignacio Pérez to tell Ignacio Allende about the arrest to San Miguel. Ignacio Perez told Juan de Aldama to tell Miguel Hidalgo in Dolores. On this date, he arrived to Hidalgos house at 2 o'clock. Knowing they would be arrested, Hidalgo rang the church bells and gathered the town into the church (Grito de Dolores). This started the independence movement.

  • Battle against Juan Antonio de Riaño- INITIATION

    Battle against Juan Antonio de Riaño- INITIATION
    Hidalgo and his army arrived to Guanajuato after taking San Miguel and Celaya, and the battle against Juan Antonio de Riaño began. He died during battle after positioning his soldiers, and Juan Jose Martinez the leader of the opposing army lit the wooden gate on fire and they entered attacking and killing gachupines.This is important because it was one of the first battles they officially fought against the Spanish.

  • Battle of Monte de las Cruces- INITIATION

    Battle of Monte de las Cruces- INITIATION
    Hidalgo and Allende decided to split their army into two and took over Zacatecas, San Luis and Valladolid.   • Regrouping of Spanish forces- INITIATION

    Regrouping of Spanish forces- INITIATION
    Under the command of Felix Calleja Spanish forces started to regroup and the Spanish royalist troops caught up with the rebels, but Hidalgo’s army still had more people. During a battle they wounded Hidalgo’s arm by an explosion which caused a lot of panic and disorder and many Indians began to flee. This was important because it caused a turn of events.   • Execution of Miguel Hidalgo- INITIATION

    Execution of Miguel Hidalgo- INITIATION
    After being caught along with Allende and other leaders in Chihuahua. Miguel Hidalgo was subjected to trial because he was a priest. However, he was found guilty by the Holy Office of the Inquisitions for heresy and treason.   • Battle of Temalaca- CONSOLIDATION

    Battle of Temalaca- CONSOLIDATION
    Battle of Temalaca took place in Puebla, which was lead by Jose Maria Morelos, who was later captured by the Spaniards and executed. Before this, Morelos established the Congress of Chilpancingo, which declared Mexico free from Spain.   • Plan de Iguala- CONSOLIDATION

    Plan de Iguala- CONSOLIDATION
    Plan de Iguala was going to be put into practice after several meetings, and consisted of 3 guarantees. First, once Mexico became independent the crown would be offered to a European prince and Mexico would be a constitutional monarchy. The Catholicism would still be put to practice and would be given a monopoly along with clergyman who would still have all their privileges and rights. Finally, that the criollos and peninsulares would be treated equally.

    End of the 11 year war- CONSUMMATION
    On this date the 11 years war finally ended when Iturbide entered Mexico City.
