In high school, MJ was deemed too short to play varsity basketball. He only played his junior and senior years averaging 25.4 points and eventually signed with the University of North Carolina to play college. In 1983, MJ led the Tar Heels to the NCAA National Championship where he would hit his famous game-winner against Georgetown. In his sophomore and junior years, he was selected player of the year and selected to the NCAA All-American First Team. He declared for the draft in 1984.
