Colin McRae Rally 2.0
This was the first video game that I ever played. It was a pretty fun game. I only played split screen multiplayer when I played it with either my dad or brother. I think this really began my love for video games as well as solidifying it in my head as a way to socialise with my friends and family. Colin McRae Rally 2.0 [PlayStation]. (2000). Codemasters. -
Star Wars the Complete Saga
This is another game from the Nintendo DS that I played a tonne. I mostly remember not being able to complete the first level for episode 5. I found it extremely hard as the game mechanics were different to the rest of the game. Traveller's Tales. (2007). Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga [Nintendo DS]. LucasArts. -
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games (2007)
This is the game that I remember playing the most on my brother's Nintendo DS. It was also another game that was able to be played multiplayer by switching the DS whenever it was the other person's turn. The game mostly consisted of a number of minigames that were played simultaneously where you would gather points for your chosen country. I mostly remember the trampoline, hurdles and fencing. Sega Sports RD. (2007). Mario Sonic at the Olympic Games [Nintendo DS]. . Nintendo. -
Wii Sports
Wii Sports is a sports game for the Wii and is probably my most played game on the Wii. I loved the multiplayer aspect of it. This is also the game that banned my brother and I from the TV on weekdays and limited our use on weekends due to the arguments Wii Sports caused. My favourite sport to play was either tennis or bowling. I absolutely hated playing boxing because my brother would ruthlessly beat me every time we played. Nintendo EAD. (2006). Wii Sports [Nintendo Wii]. Nintendo. -
Blokus
Blokus is a board game that, simply put is a strategy game about placing "blocky" pieces onto a board and gaining points by taking up the most space on the board. My memories surrounding this game focus around playing it on holiday in Kangaroo Island with family friends. Its one of those games that you can play forever. Blokus [Board game]. (2000). Mattel. -
Call of Duty: Black Ops II
Call of Duty Black Ops 2 is probably my favourite game of all time. I think it comes from a place of nostalgia as well as remembering all the fun nights I had playing it at my friends houses before I was able to play MA15+ games. It was a blast and I loved the social aspect of the game when playing both split screen with friends and online multiplayer on both the multiplayer and zombies modes. Treyarch. (2012). Call of Duty: Black Ops II [Xbox 360]. Activision. -
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical first person shooter that is completely played on online multiplayer. This is probably the game that I have played the most in years and hours. This is due to the vast variety in situations and how you could move past them. It is also due to me having two different friend groups play it in different times in my life. Ubisoft Montreal. (2015). Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege [Xbox One Windows]. Ubisoft. -
Fortnite Battle Royale
Fortnite needs no introduction because of the juggernaut it has become. Fortnite wasn't the first battle royale that I played but was the one I stuck with the longest and probably had the most fun with. It was also the first game that had cross-platform multiplayer so I could now play with all my new friends from High School who had Playstations when I had an Xbox. Fortnite Battle Royale [Xbox One Windows]. (2017). Epic Games -
Apex Legends
Another battle royale in the list. Apex Legends changed the battle royale genre by adding unique character abilities. I played this game a lot in high school but mostly for the second half as cross-play was added as well as lots of my friends buying gaming computers.
Respawn Entertainment. (2019). Apex Legends [Xbox One Windows]. Electronic Arts -
Escape from Tarkov
Escape from Tarkov is a hardcore first person shooter that has a very immersive realism which can make the game very annoying and rage inducing at times. I think this game has given me the worst rages I've experienced from gaming. I bought the game because my friend at the time convinced me after weeks of talking about it at school but I think playing this game together really made us bond. Escape from Tarkov [Windows]. (2017). Battlestate Games -
Overwatch
Overwatch is a game that I have been playing for a long time. I first played it on the Xbox One but not much. During my final year of High School in 2021 I started playing it a lot more with one of my friends and have been playing ever since. Recently some more of my friends have been playing and it has been lots of fun. I enjoy the high skill cap as well as the teamwork needed to win the game. Overwatch [Windows]. (2016).
