The world was graced with my beautiful presence.
-
I got my first job working as a student worker at the Public Defenders Office. I did a lot of office work, pulling charts, filing charts and making copes. I didn't completely hate it, but I didn't like it either. I stayed because it paid for school.
-
I started college at Grossmont community college undecided about what I wanted to major in.
-
Decided I wanted to be a science teacher and declared biology as my major. I loved being in the lab and doing all kinds of experiments.
-
I didn't fully enjoy my job at the Public Defenders office and I quit. Shortly after quitting, I started working at Wells Fargo at night while going to school in the day.
-
I wanted to be in the medical field, but I didn’t know where to start. I took a medical terminology class which led me to the medical assistant program through ROP (Regional Occupational Program).
-
I completed the clinical medical assistant program through ROP and received my certificate and passed the exam. I really enjoyed my internship and working with the patients, however my parents are strong believers in education and getting a degree so I went back to school. I got accepted into CSU San Marcos and continued as a biology major.
-
I graduated at CSU San Marcos with a Bachelor's in Science in Biology. I loved learning about everything that had to do with biology, and I wanted to be like Alton Brown, the food science guy on the food network, but it was the time of the recession, and no one was hiring. Unsure of what lies ahead, I continued to work with Wells Fargo while looking for a job.
-
After having no luck finding a job in research or anything to do with Biology, I decided to go back to school. I went back to the medical field where I loved helping people. I started the LVN program at Kaplan college while still working nights with Wells Fargo.
-
Graduated the LVN program at Kaplan College with Stephanie Cotton with high honors.
-
I passed the LVN NCLEX! All I remember was walking out of the exam dazed with a mild headache, it was hard, but I passed! My hard work paid off.
-
I was recommended by family to care for a young man who was paraplegic. I helped him get ready in the mornings and made sure he ate and took his morning meds. It was a pleasure to work with him and I learned a lot from him. I worked every other day with him and it didn't even feel like work, it was like helping a friend.
-
After having a few per diem shifts as an LVN and not liking it (nurses and patients were mean), I finally landed my first LVN job doing biometric screenings and flu clinics. Everyone was nice and helpful, and I started to like nursing again. I really enjoyed working with different people and not having to stay in one place too long.
-
After four years of dating we decided to tie the knot and begin a new chapter together.
-
After getting married I moved to LA and started working at Delight Medical, a weight loss clinic. It was very interesting and I liked the people I worked with, but driving to Beverly Hills from where I lived at the time was no joke.
-
I started working as an intake coordinator at PRN home health services. My commute to work was a lot better than working at the weight loss clinic. I learned a lot from our DON and my workload wasn't too heavy, but I missed being hands on and talking to patients. It wasn't the same talking to them on the phone in the office.
-
At 28 weeks pregnant with my first born, I was put on bedrest and had to stop working. It was a little tough for me because I liked working.
-
After being on bed rest for what seemed like forever my daughter was born happy and healthy at 6 pounds 8 ounces. I haven't slept since.
-
My second daughter was born prematurely and we stayed in the NICU for about 2 months. Me and my husband took turns being with her and I was able to see how gentle and attentive the NICU nurses were with my daughter.
-
After having my second baby, I wanted to go back to work and be closer to family. We moved back to San Diego and I started working at the San Diego Vascular Center. It was different and fast paced. Other than my responsibilities as an LVN, they trained me as a scrubbed tech and I loved it since.
-
My third and last baby was born happy and healthy at 7 pounds 13 oz and 20 inches. Having a baby post pandemic was a different experience from my other two babies. It was a little depressing, we weren't allowed visitors except for my husband so my family wasn't able to see the baby until later.
-
With the encouragement of my coworkers, I decided to go back to school to get my RN, but some of my science classes had expired and I had to re take them so I went back to school.
-
My ADN journey begins at United Nursing College. After years of doing prerequisites and finding a school that doesn't have a waiting list, I finally found a school and was very excited to begin.
