Coming from a Western Teaching experience in South Africa to the East, was an "eye opener" experience in many ways. While confronted with new challenges by teaching Kindergarten students to read, I have to develop a paradigm shift in my teaching career.

The school produced a Musical directed by professional Trainers. I was privilege to be chosen as Ms Darbus, the Drama character.

I got the opportunity to teach at a public school, in the English Department. This was the first time in my teaching career that I have to work on Christmas Day, 25 December I was very unhappy about it and pray to God to help me. The result was that I conduct a very special Christmas Play which was attended to all parents and grandparents. What a blessing it was to be used by God to tell the story of our Saviour's birth.

Being the Head of Department, I got the opportunity to develop a brand-new curriculum for the Kindergarten Department. Our theme was "Learning through paying" It gives the students many fun activities to take part in.

It implies a shift of mind in my students' parents minds. Young students of 3-year old need to master the phonics of the ABC first before being ready to read with comprehension. Parents were not used to phonics-method. With excellent collaboration, different sessions with groups of students with their parents, the outcome was amazing. Before two months had passed, our K1-students could sound, put together and read three-letter words.

Definitely one of the highlights of my career! Teaching at a Japanese school was a fantastic opportunity. Not only did I fell in love with the Japanese students, their culture impressed me so much. Their teacher training were impressive. In every classroom you will see a piano with a qualified teacher! For me as Choir Director, it was a breeze to direct our school choir with so much talents around me.

What a lovely picture it was to see all students as well as their teachers dressed in their different cultures dress. I rented a Japanese costume and was ready to take off for Japan! So much fun with the different kind of foods to try and experience.

To be 75 years old and become a student again is not a usual thing to see on campus. I love my teaching career so much that I cannot say good bye to it. I decided to upgrade my qualifications and before i could change my mind, I was enrolled at AIU. Not only the academic wealth is meaningful to me, but my Christian life improved so much!. A big thank you for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful experience.
