United States Congressional Election
On this day in history, the midterm elections were held. Due to how badly George W. Bush was doing during his presidency, voting was heavily voted towards the Democratic Party. This was the first midterm election to have such a lopsided victory, that the victorious party, the Democratic party that is, did not lose a single seat in the house. Likewise this was the first time the Speaker of the House was female. -
Iowa Caucus
During the Iowa Caucus of 2008, Hilary Clinton had her strategy of winning presidency around being the front runner of the Iowa Caucus. However, Obama was seen as the face of change, and John Edwards, a former nominee, outdid Hiliary leaving her in third. This changed Clinton's strategy vastly. -
New Hampshire Primary
After a bad showing at the Iowa Caucus, Hiliary Clinton's run for presidency looked bleak. However, at the New Hampshire Primary, she became the first woman to lead a national primary. -
Hillary and Obama almost tied
Hillary was very close throughtout the race, but by June of 2008, Hillary decided to drop and wanted her supporters to help Obama. -
Obama beats John McCain by a wide margin
After the presidential election was over with, Obama had won by a wide margin with both the popular vote and the electoral votes. Obama had 52.93% of the popular vote, and 365 electroral votes. This is compared to McCain's 45.65% and 173 electoral votes.
