since Tilos that is a small island with not many residents had the ability to host over 20% of its population in refugees then Kozani can possibly host 5% of its own population that comes up to two thousand refugees and provide them a better life -
Firstly they can help the economy by boosting not only labour but also consumption since they will be buying things from all kinds of shops. In addition, it will have social benefits since they will form their own communities and eventually meet local communities and that will enrich both cultures.
Last but not least they can potentially enhance the life of residents by bringing their own energy ,habits and traditions -
Refugees can help improve agriculture in Kozani by working on farms and growing new kinds of fruits and vegetables that are common in their countries . They can also create new businesses that help both locals and refugees by creating new job opportunities. These ideas can make the community stronger and more united -
One way that our school can be helpful is if all students gather foods,old clothes that are no longer worn,old toys etc. and donate them to the refugees . Another is that older students can possibly help younger refugees with their homework and in the better understanding of the school. Lastly we should create a friendly environment at the school and make them feel included in all activities -
Refugees that come to Kozani can be hosted in local hotels such as Elena or Nefeli. But the mayor should also take into consideration that not all refugees have money with them and maybe organise the renovation of abandoned hotels and buildings and make them suitable for people to live there until they’re able to find a real home to stay in
