His first steps in painting
He was chosen to be an apprentice to the well-known painter Fra Filippo Lippi.Botticelli quickly became recognised as a gifted artist. At the age of 15 he opened his own workshop. -
Period: 1477 to 1490
His greatest works
During this period he created some of his greatest paintings, such as the "Primavera", "Pallas and the Centaur", "Venus and and Mars" and "The birth of Venus". -

His contribution to Sistine Chapel
He was invited to Rome, to take part in the painting of Cistine Chapel. -

Religious symbolism
After 1490 he concentrated on paintings with many small figures to make his paintings seem more alive, such as the Crucifixion. -

His death
He dies at the age of 65, poor and unaccomplised,as some believe.He know has the respect of the whole world and his considered one of the most esteemed painters of the Italian Renaissance. Many of his paintings are exhibited in the Uffizi Gallery.
