  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts

    A series of Laws that the English Parliament put on the colonists in the 1600s. It made colonists sell all raw materials to England, even though they could get better prices elsewhere in Europe.
  • Molasses Act

    Molasses Act

    The main goal of the act was to make American colonies buy molasses, sugar, and rum only from British colonies. The act put a tax on molasses and due to the tax colonists started smuggling molasses because it was too expensive.

    In the 1700s Britain and France had a very strong rivalry, the French built a chain of forts. In 1754 the governor of Virginia sent out a Militia to drive out the French. After going down to Fort Duquesne, Washington set up a small for4 of his own called Fort Necessity

    The goal was to form a united colony government. In the early days of the war the French had a lot of success and captured several British forts while Native Americans carried out raids alongside them. During the war, William Pitt became Prime Minister of British government and decided to send trained British troops to fight in North America. In the end France no longer held power in North America which was now controlled by Britain and Spain.

    The sugar Act was the act of taking tax off of molasses to stop smuggling
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act

    The purpose of the Stamp Act was to raise money for Britain after the French and Indian war. The colonists had to have stamped papers for it to be a legal document. This applied to newspapers, playing cards and other printed materials. The colonists got angry and started saying "No Taxation without Representation!" And formed groups like the Sons of Liberty and many people boycotted British goods.

    General Thomas Gage ordered Lieutenant colonel Francis Smith: take 700 troops, to concord to seize and destroy all the artillery and amo that he could find.

    This Act was a loss of self government was designed to make colonists think before any action against the crown was made.

    Colonists had to provide housing supplies for British soldiers.

    British officials change with a capital offense had to be tried in another country OR England
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act

    A government for Canada was created, and extend its territory all the way south t the Ohio River.
