    Navigation Acts
    A law that the British Parliament put in act to prevent the Colonies from trading with other countries and with their own Colonies.
  • The End of Salutary Neglect

    The End of Salutary Neglect
    When the British Parliament made a new unofficial policy that was initiated by Robert Walpole, it prevented the Colonists from trading with others and avoiding strict enforcement. This policy was put in place from 1689 to 1763. After the French and Indian War in 1763, the Colonists began to boycott British goods and petition the British government. This led to the end of the Salutary Neglect in 1763

    The British King, King George III told the American Colonies that they were not allowed to go past the Appalachian mountains to the West.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The British wanted to stop the smuggling of sugar and molasses from the French and the Dutch West Indians. The British prevented the imports from these countries. So they decided to tax all of the sugar that the Colonists used, which was a big deal because it was used in a lot.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The British Parliament passed the Stamp Act so they could pay the British troops that were stationed in the Colonies. The Colonists were directly taxed by the British, this tax was represented by a stamp on various documents, papers, and playing cards.

    Sons of Liberty
    A secret organization that was in the 13 colonies. This organization fought against taxation from the British government.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    The British Parliament passed the Townshend Act, which added a tax on glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea. This means that the Colonists had to pay even more taxes than they already were before.

    The Boston Massacre wasn't really a massacre, there were only 5 people who got killed with less than 20 people. The cause of this was Colonists throwing things at 9 Red Coats, This caused 9 Red Coats to shoot the Colonists.

    The Boston Tea Party was when the Sons of Liberty planned to throw tea into the harbor. The Sons of Liberty did this as a protest against the taxation of tea.

    Boston Port Act(March): This happened after the Boston Tea Party. The British wanted to punish the Colonies for their action so they decided to close down the Boston Port and they would open it until all the money lost was paid back in full. Massachusetts Government Act(May): The reconstruction of the MA government, and changed it so that, when the British sent their newly approved officials, they would join the government and hold the most power.
