It is said to have inspired the creators of Facebook and YouTube. After changing ownership multiple times, the site has now been rebranded as the dating app Chat Date. -
Friendster
Launched in 2002 as a dating site to connect people through mutual friends, Friendster offered profiles, status updates, and mood sharing. It really became popular in 2003 where it was so big people had to go to other social media websites -
Myspace
Myspace was strong competitor to Friendster, attracting millions of teens with its customizable, public profiles that often included music, videos, and personal photos. In 2005, it reached its peak with 25 million users and ranked as the fifth most visited site in the U.S., but its sale to another company was the mistake that they should not of let happen. -
LinkedIn, YouTube, and WordPress
Mark Zuckerberg created Facemash, Harvard's version of Hot or Not, followed by the launch of “The Facebook” in 2004. By the end of that year, it had reached one million users and dropped “The” to become simply Facebook in 2005.
