Cleveland Blast Furnace PT1
Cleveland's first blast furnace was built in 1859, hiring over 300 people. -
Lake Superior
Lake Superior had been checked by the US Government and had been found to have a massive amount of iron deposits that would be used to supply the steel for all the upcoming steel mills. -
First Factory
The first factory to use this process was built in 1865 in Troy, New York. -
Reconstruction
Financed by Andrew Carnegie-an important industrialist also in the steel industry- the biggest current steel mill was reconstructed to use the Bessemer Process. -
Cleveland PT2
Cleveland became one of the biggest steel producers in the US with 10 steel mills and up to 3000 steel workers. -
Creation of United States Steel
United States Steel was founded by combining the current biggest steel factories at the time. Carnegie one of the biggest names appointed Charles Schwab to run them. -
Gary, Indiana
Gary, Indiana was founded in 1906 by the United States Steel foundation, the city was used for the sole purpose of steel making, the city was used to assist Gary Works. -
Growing Production
By 1910 the US was producing 24 millions of steel, more than any country at the time, but not without reason, this rapid increase in production was to supply the infrastructure of America today, railroads, buildings everything important that has lead us to be advanced today. -
Little Steel Strike
A huge labor striker involving multiple steel mills where they wanted standard pay, 8 hours of work and chance for overtime, it went so far that 67000 people walked out, this causing so much violence that it left thousands of them arrested, hundreds of them injured, and 18 confirmed deaths, one of the most violent strikes in US history. -
World War 2
The US was the only major country that's steel production wasn't affected, this lead to them making 67% of the worlds pig iron and 72% of the steel.
